It is not a total loss someone will buy what you no longer need.
I have done it more than once - bought something and never used it - sold it at a loss.

Here's the update
The 2.5" fan did not fit with the shroud
it was close but just too tight
we did use 2 jumper wires and turned on the fan
It was moving and incredible amount of air
more than the mechanical fan ever did
so we decided to use the mount kit Champion/Leadfoot sent us and mount it directly to the radiator
This is not ideal but it did work
The fan comes on when it should and the needle stays in a range I am comfortable with
we deliberately let it idle a lot
and never got as hot as it did with the mechanical fan
When you place your hand around the radiator in front and back you feel a lot of air movement
you didn't feel hardly any with the mechanical fan
So for now I have bought myself some time for the price of the electric fan
We placed the controller and wiring out of the way of what could be a later 26 inch swap so it will be easier if I redo it all later
the only thing I am not happy with is the sound of the fan itself
a high pitched whine that is pretty loud but I can live with it

also not related at all but a story I must tell
The new torque converter is loosening up some now
I was able to launch at 3200 RPM yesterday and this thing is stout!
some more fine tuning and a jet or two and this will be everything I hoped for
I am a happy camper!

You know if you make/modify the shroud that mounts the fan offset from the centre it would still work fine and you could probably use the existing fan and radiator.
My one on my Challenger the fan motor is closer to the power steering pump.

Actually that is a good idea
I have a neighbor with a cnc machine
He is a great fabricator
I will discuss it with him

Acting on Steve340's excellent idea
(why didn't think of that myself????)

I called Champion back
They are going to refund the original shroud since I didnt mount it
They can also make a custom shroud that offsets the fan
but it will take a bit of time and custom is a bit more
I will talk to my neighbor first

I must say I have been treated fairly
and am happy with the results
The fan will work as is for now and I have a solution to get a shroud in the future

If that fan and radiator are doing the job with the fan right on the radiator core you will have no worries when you get the shroud on.
It is great the supplier will supply what you need as well.

OK, here is my completed fan/shroud/radiator. Sorry the pics are dark, too many trees. It's tight between the fan and water pump, about 3/8" but think it'll work. I put my hand on the front of the condenser with the fan on and I can feel it pulling, something the stock fan would barely do.

Pictures of my 1968 GTX with 22 inch stock radiator and 16 inch pusher fan.
I made the brackets in the milling machine out of 6mm mild steel angle iron
