Electrical Idiot Needs Mopar-Specific Expert

You said you have low voltage during cranking. Have you put a voltmeter on the coil positive and measure during cranking. The voltage should be very close to the voltage at the battery during cranking. The ballast resister is bypassed by the starter relay during cranking. Power is still going through the resister during cranking, as well as getting power from the bypass circuit. Electricity will seek the easier path, as well as all paths. On a Mopar, when the ballast resister fails, the symptom is it will try to start in the crank position, but immediately dies when the key is returned to the run position. Also check the air gap of the dist pick up in the distributor. The ignition box controls the ground of the coil so a really clean connection is needed as stated above. The bypass is the yellow wire that the pen is pointing to.
