Engine Bay Color Change

Mine’s black…

Brings up a question for an original (but not perfect) engine bay. If you were putting in a fresh engine, would you leave the original engine bay paint alone?

Is the rest of the car restored or in "original" condition? I would want to match the condition of the engine bay to the rest of the car.

It had a repaint about 30 years ago. Paint is is in good condition, not perfect by any stretch. The chrome, grill, bright work, interior are all original and presentable. Top was replaced about 3 years ago.

Mine was already blue. Just had to repaint it due to welding up all the unused factory holes and other modifications.

My old GTX with a new bullet. Not painting anything on this old car that is unrestored. Original engine needed overhauled to get it on the road so I painted it before installation but that's all. That's a new alum rad too that I painted to make it look as close to original as possible

I would just leave it unless it really bothers you cause its a lot of work so maybe do it when you pull the engine for a refresh. Its cool to have it still original too.

Since I started this question, I’m inclined believe that up to the change to unibody construction in 62 the older mopars had body painted firewalls with blacked out inner fenders and radiator supports. Black cars of course excluded from the generalities. Anyone concur?
