Hey everyone.

I have the 68 Coronet 318 car, and a 84 Ram Charger.

The Ram Charger has a 360 with Edlebrock Performer/Hooker Headers and 2.5 inch exhaust and Flowmasters on it with a truck 727 I presume, transfer case etc.

I want to put that engine/trans/exhaust in the Coronet.

Would I just need to put the Coronet transmissions tailshaft on the trucks transmission to do this, or would I need to put the Coronets transmission on the 360.

360"s are externally balanced so I wouldn't need the trucks torque converter would I?

Also I would part out the Ram Charger if anyone wants the front and rear axle/transfer case, etc.

You will need the torque converter that was with the 360 (the 360 was in the truck you will need the torque converter from the truck). The rest, I'm not sure about clearance you'll have to wait until the other guys see this posts.

I'd bet that the 318 Coronet has a 904 trans not a 727. Parts are not going to interchange between a 904 and a 727.

The headers won't work, and you're going to need to get a car tailshaft and housing for the transmission from the truck.
As for the front and rear differentials, and the transfer case, they are not the most desirable. Should have a Dana 44 in front, and a 9.25 in the rear. Either NP208 or NP241 transfer. Most guys swap in Dana 60's, and NP205, as they are stronger. But, if you price them right, someone will want them...hope this helps.

Are you going with more power or is the 318 just seen better days? My guess if that is the stock 318, it's probably putting out just as much, if not a bit more power than the 360 combo. Plus that 360 is designed around low end torque and no real higher RPM HP. If you looking to bump up performance, my vote would be to fetch a big block, spend 2-3K on a general/mild rebuild and tranny and get yourself some decent torque to move that heavy B-body. Gearing makes a world of difference if you still have those 2.76 granny gears in the back. Of course you would want a torque converter to match those as well as engine specifics to really harness the power. 904 Tranny's don't get enough credit...If the 360 is your only option the 904 should handle it no problem, but like mentioned a 360 external balanced specific torque converter would be needed. Maybe it would be a good time to dial in some different gears at the same time.....two birds, one stone. Good luck.

Headers wont work? dang, Z bar problems? what kind would everyone recommend?

The engine is not the original one, it has a casting date of a 83-85 car, probably a Diplomat or something, or maybe a truck. Looking to build a

good performing small block 4 dr, as I have the Superbee with a 440 already, that way I wouldn't need to buy a big block transmission and engine.

I have the 74 360 that I bought for the heads to put on the Ram Charger. Not looking to build a race car, just a better performing car than it is now, you know, ugly 4 dr car with a awesome drive train and sound to it.

Hey that's a nice solid looking '68. I would drive the heck out of that as well!

Thanks, totally bone stock when i got it, still had the original rims and fitting tires on it. Radio delete base Coronet, only one code on the fender tag for the heater, someone put dual exhaust on it when they did the engine transplant though.

No rust, just a few dents.

Some have mentioned the 360 being externally balanced, which is true. However you can get a balanced flex plate from Summit in order to run a "neutral" torque converter with that 360.
I just FINALLY completed a similar swap, pulled the original poly318 from my 65 Coronet and stuffed a 360 in it. I was able to use my original rebuilt 727 transmission with it. If you already have a good transmission in the car use it and get that flex plate.
Assuming your engine mounts match up, it should be a breeze. The passanger side mount in my application had to be made, altered, and cussed out extensively. Other than than, everything works. I was even able to use the headers on the 360 also, with a little reworking on the drivers side to clear the power steering stuff.
Good luck.

I'd gladly take that car. Bolting that 360 in should be a pretty easy proposition, just do as suggested with the torque converter and run the trans that's already in the car unless its on its last legs.
