Just heard a rumor. Deal may fall through. EPA not happy with wrecked cars and leaked fluids.

I heard it was the light duty streets and increased truck traffic that put the kabosh on the deal.

It is in the middle of a Residential area. Traffic used to be through the roof years back until the area expanded and added. I would not be happy with tractor trailers hauling in and out. I could put up with the racers and the super events. But that would be my limit.

What do these people expect living next to a race track? It's like those people that build next to an airport and complain about the noise

They get what they deserve. They moved in & then bitch ed about the noise. Well, for the most part that was weekend's. Now, they'll have to deal with traffic, the truck and car carriers in and out, during the day, All week long. Too Damn bad.

I remember in the late 80's when they started building those "McMansions" around the track and thinking, "this won't end well"! It's all yuppies and Staten Island guidos that moved into the area. In the early 90's, they complained so much that Raceway Park mandated mufflers on all but the pro classes. Before the yuppies took over, it was rural white trash. Driving around and checking what the locals had in their yard was almost as much fun as going to the track. In 1989, I bought a 1973 Charger SE on Texas Rd., not a mile from the track.
Damn snowflakes ruin EVERYTHING!!

This is pretty interesting. I didn’t know any of this or the history of this track as this was before my time and I didn’t really grow up around drag racing, just classic cars with my dad. I came across this post and looked it up. Neat history. Caught my eye because my car has two decals on it that were from the original owner, that have Englishtown Raceway Class Winner. I left them on because I thought they were neat and it was a bit of history I wanted to leave with the car. I bought the car from the second owner and he told me the original owner blew the motor drag racing. I wonder if it was at Englishtown? I will get a pic of the sticker and post it tonight.

This story was circulating for about an hour before Alex Napp called the editor and made them take it down.

You would have thought they would have had all the details worked out on the new deal before they killed all the racing. Especially telling the NHRA to get lost on short notice.

sad to think they won't be racing there anymore

who cares anymore?
its in the past now
just turn it to a cow pasture..

Man you hit the nail on the head. These people have closed down more tracks that I can count.

The bastards will move in then Bitch... then they get elected to the county commissioners, infiltrate the zoning department etc. etc. and that's it, the cancer has spread.

No no no! The people of Jersey next to and near the track all get it and understand. They all know the track is there and live with it. The township has noise and operating restrictions that are very reasonable, NO DOUBT! Failure to heed the restrictions results in fines.

Read the above reply I made.

I also disagree with “To Bad” because they people are OK with the track but the change and added up swing in tractor trailer traffic is what there against.

If you live in a quite area and the sudden appearance of a tractor trailer depo moved in a few doors down and your area was designed for increased traffic of huge proportions with tractor trailers you’d be pissed. And then some way out of state moron said to bad you got what deserved, how does his asshat comment hold water?

Actually, you're wrong. The people living around the track in the 70's and 80's understood the track and dealt with it. When the subdivisions started going up in the early 90's is when all of the problems started. They built McMansions within spitting distance of the track and the rest is history. The Brooklyn and Staten Island ******** started moving in, along with the yuppies and ruined everything. The whining and complaining started and eventually they won. They went to EVERY town council meeting, ranted in the local papers and on the local news channels and eventually the track owner caved. He tried muffling the cars in the mid 90's, the ******** still weren't happy. I know, I grew up going there and raced there from the time I was a teenager. Friday nights at Englishtown were the best. I even raced motocross there in my early teens. I don't understand why the ******** and the yuppies thought living next to a race track would be a good idea. Even better, what was the original developer thinking when he bought the farm land and decided to build yuppie havens. Typical LibTards, complain and whine until they get their way. I'm glad that I moved to North Carolina!! Now I have Piedmont Dragstrip less than 5 miles from my house.
