I got my crossram running tonight but can not for the life of me get the idle set. I checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner but nothing. The car starts and the idle is hi(1800-2000) if I turn it down just alittle it almost dies(500 or less). if I turn it alittle when it is low it sky rockets, 1800-2000. I guess I need to check the DVD that they sent with the carbs to see if there is something that I am missing?

ANY IDEAS???????

I had a lot of idle issues too!!! Mine ended up getting better with a lot of work though! Idle mixture was a lot to do with it! I had to rebuild the carb to get things under control and adjustable. I also added a new distributor, Additional fuel filter to prevent the carb from plugging up with foam from the fuel cell. I do believe most of the improvement was from the carb rebuild, allowing me to manage the idle mixture. I also found that I fuel fouled the plugs getting it running. I could realy tell a differance after cleaning them up, but they need replaced all together now. Mine doesn't like to come back down from a good rev now though... Idles down way to slow! Good luck with yours!

Whoops forgot that part didn't I?

The set up is an A&A crossram with dual 500 Eddy's. Everything is new. I am going to watch the tuning DVD and maybe call Edelbrock to ask them some questions also.

Yha, I don't know much about the Eddelbrocks. You may want to ask Chris or Fugly.
Although it sounds like it's lean somewhere... keep checking for leaks.

SUPERSTOCKRACER AND Fugly are the sources you really need to speak to. Why not send them a PM.

Did you install the large threaded vacuum pipe plug in the back of each carb? A lot of times it gets overlooked, ask me how I know!

1st disconnect the carbs from the 2 throttle linkages and start the car, see if you still are high.
then turn the carbs evenly until you achieve your desired idle.
then adjust your rods accordingly. i bet you have the rods too short.

Thanks for your time Fugly. I know you are busy.

Mixture screws out 2 turns, idle screw in 1 1/2 +1/8 turns, tried 1 1/2 turns but it won't start/run,car starts and runs around 1800(vacuum reads 9 on both carbs). Car warmed up, linkage disconnected.

I checked the metering rod springs. When the idle was down to 1000(car barely running) they were popping up but when I get it the car to 1500 they are down. I hit the gas and they pop up.

Now on to the idle. It will hold on 1600/1500rpm so I turn the idle screw 1/8 or less it lowers it some but not much, maybe to 1500. I think that I am getting somewhere so I turn it a little more maybe 1500/1400 so just a little turn on both(vacuum now reads an unsteady 5) the motor will flutter and then die. I did get a look at the tach while it was fluttering before it died (1000/800). I have tried many, many times to get the idle to 1200/1100 to no avail.

I haven't adjusted the mixture screws from the 2 turns out since I can't get the idle to 1200rpm. I have checked a few times for vacuum leaks but haven't found any. The idle will hold steady at 1500 but when I put it in gear it drops below 1000 and will not stay running without help. It could be the convertor but the only thing changed on the motor is the intake and it ran perfect before the swap so I don't think it is that. It is very responsive when the pedal is hit, real crisp with no bogs(in park anyway). Why do all the Mopar guys live so far away!!!!! I am going to try again on Tuesday afternoon because I messed with it for about 4 hours on Friday and just had enough.

that sounds alot like your timing is not quite right- if it is, try opening up the mixture screws another turn and see if it makes a difference.....another possibility is it's too lean to idle on the idle circuit alone and is pulling from the transition circuit- this would explain going from running to not in such a short span- if all else fails, jet it up to the next size on the primaries

wedge5 ,are we talking about the indy 440-25 intake?
if so the 2 carb mounting plates have to be taken off and siliconed to the intake top!!!!!!
you have a vacuum leak from under the 2 carb plates :sign12::uwelcome:.indy doesnt supply gaskets under there anymore. get yourself some black rtv silicone and run a bead around the base of both carb adapter plates. PROBLEM SOLVED. then do what fugly is saying.

WEDGE5 ,its sucks indy doesnt supply any gaskets under those assembled tops, and they dont tell you theres nothing under there to cause you a severe vacuum leak.
let us know how you make out.

Fugly: I am going to re-check my timing again. I have the timing set @32* I may bump it up to 34*/35* to see if that helps. I am wondering if the 32* is to low and making it doggy on the low end? I am not sure if it will help though because the motor ran great with the 32* before I changed over to the crossram intake. I had a 440-2/930Demon on the motor before this one. Is 35* total timing to much timing for motor? 11.2 to 1 CR, I use 97 octane(93/100 mixed), Aluminum heads. I am sure you need more information but not sure what.

Chris: No it isn't the Indy 440-25. I switched over to a crossram set up. I found out the hard way that Indy intake didn't come with gaskets between the spacers. Blew the top clean off!!!! I know the crossram isn't as good for all out performance but the backfire just made me distrust that intake. I am not really going for all out performance but for 10.5. Seems to me Indy needs to improve on their design a little and include some gaskets or let the buyer know that they need to install gaskets between the spacers. I am not the only one that has had a backfire. I know you have never had a problem with them but I told U I would have a backfire. I did get lucky with the backfire because it didn't do any real damage to the intake. Know anyone looking for a 440-25 set up?

32 should not make it doggy, 35 should not be too much- I assume it is locked?

It is not locked. MSD with the lightest springs on it. box shows full advanced at 2500ish.

so what's it read at idle or as close to idle as you can get?

To be perfectly honest I have never set timing. A friend set it for me but I am going to have to learn how to do it now. He isn't always around to help. Heck, I just learned how to set the valve lash. This is wah I ask such simple questions because I have never done any of this stuff before. I guess it is never to late to learn.

I will see what it is at idle and get back to you. I am leaning towards the timing. The only two things that I changed on the car is the intake and the distributor/timing.
