I was invited to the Goodyear tower at Daytona in 1991, for the Bush race and then for the Cup race the next day, by the boss at Goodyear. I had to look up the year, because I remember it was during the Gulf war. I met Lee Petty, Buddy Baker, Benny Parsons and a host of others. I sat next to Leroy Waltrip over lunch, having a good conversation with him.
Darrell Waltrip had wrecked out of the race and while I was walking from the tower just before the end of the race, I passed by Darrell Waltrip. I said something like, I was just talking with your dad, nice guy and he acknowledged and kept walking. After that, I turned my head around to look back, just at the same time Darrell did the same. We both waved and then kept walking.
