Extended lugs for 72 8 1/4?

Need longer studs, I understand Chrysler used an odd sized knurl. Which studs will work? I'll need to get past a 1/2" spacer and aftermarket rim. Not sure how thick the rim is, but for sure the factory length stud won't work!
 
Nothing special. Just pull a stud and measure the spline diameter to be sure.
 
Is this a common thing? It seems like longer studs could be weaker, and given these may be used in the rear, where them forces at the drag strip are big, gosh, it seems the offset wheel is the better way to go.

No difference between a short or long stud as far as stress in a normal wheel to hub application. However adding a spacer does add stress to the stud. I hate spacers.

Longer studs becoming necessary has become a thing since a lot of aftermarket wheel manufacturers went to conical style lugnuts, instead of the mag style lugnut they used to use.
With a mag lug, and a wheel with a 3/4 thick hub, you just used the proper length lug.
That same wheel with a 3/4" thick hub, and conical seats, might need a 1/2" longer stud (or more) to be safe. A mag lug goes into and thru the wheel, conical just sits on the outside.

Stock Mopar axle studs are .673... These are .675... So .002 oversize... ARP markets them as correct for Mopar... They are 3.125 long..... Stock Mopar studs are 1.6 so these are 1.5" longer than stock...
.....and if you don't wanna run open end lugs, you could cut em to the length you want with a die grinder and a cutoff wheel.
I run 3"(or more) studs on any of my cars that are supposed to be fast, and open end lugs on all of em.


I'd still pull a stock stud to make sure of the spline size. 8 1/4 might be different from an 8 3/4. Mopar has done stranger things.....

You might not get a longer stud in without pulling the axles or hubs.

Do they make a shorter stud? I haven't found it yet.

Has anyone with rear discs had trouble with the AARP knurl sticking out too far, preventing the disc from seating correctly?

Yes.

Never again on the longer wheel studs.

Maybe, if the knurl on the replacement was the EXACT diameter as what was removed. Any oversize will put too much pressure on the threads and distort them. We pressed the rest of them in, and had to order another set to replace the one failed first attempt.
