Wow prop, i love those vintage aircraft, That would be cool to have them Made up like you said. That P-51D Mustang, One beautiful plane, all were but i guess the P-51 was always my favorite plane of my models and gas powered toys years ago, along side of the German Stuka bomber.. Thanks for posting those!
 
hey will,just catching up on your resto.looking good,those rims will look good on your car.those aircraft guages are cool,can only imagine the stories behind those on the plane that flew in the war.those would be priceless.just a question,what did you ever do will the slots that were on your RR when you first got it?

Good to hear from you Roger. Hope everthing is going good on your end. I hear you on the gauges. Can't help but think about all the crazy senario's that must have played out for the pilots that used them and the planes they were sitting in.

As far as the rims, I traded Wannadrag for the steel cragers that are on the car now..I now a lot of folks like them, but didn't really fit my tastes. You might be seeing them on a 68' GTX soon by the sound of it.

You take care and hopefully you can get a little R & R with the family and your roadrunner soon.
 
I needled my splash shields also and found out the rust was just too bad and junked them. And after looking at the prices of replacements, got a headache and made my own that actually fit correctly. I always wondered who at chrysler decided to do this instead of just putting a inner wheel well in the car. I also started saving my old needles and tig welding a blob of steel on the end instead of constantly buying new ones.

I hear you there!! I actually got a set of new replacements I picked up down at Jefferson last spring, but I think I got desperate to fix some old rotton metal and brought the old ones back. I was stunned how pricey they are. Must have been quite a project whipping up all those funky angles to match the bolt pattern..Got any pic's how they turned out Russ?

Good idea on the needles...Gotta say the needles on the Ingersoll are holding up real well, but welding on fresh metal sure would save some cash...
 
They are all blasted full of undercoat now so no pics. All it took was about 8 hours with cardboard templets and crawling in and out about 200 times with the metal to make adjustments lol. And recently I took in trade a 71 Z28, 454, 5 speed hot rod as partial payment on a nova I had. So of course they are both being worked on at the same time. I just cant leave **** alone, the car was fine the way it was but wasnt mine as I put it to the old lady, have to change some stuff you know. And yes just because I have mopars doesnt mean I dont like other brands also. Chrysler never gave me a ring so Im not totaly faithful to them. And to top it off Im also building a engine test stand to fire my engines on before they go in, took well over a hour to explain the logic of this one to the females living here who think all mechanical stuff works perfectly all the time lol.
 
Prop, Jefferson, WI? Man, that's a big swap, but lots of walking to do with all the camo gear, and other crapola I saw there. Ironically, that was the only thing I did buy at Jefferson was a set of E Body splash shields.

Good work on the metal fab.

Welder, the splash shields are made of plastic on an E Body so yeah, they got it right on those :D

Nothing wrong with owning another brand Russ...I know some folks around here are die hard mopar or no car, but nothing wrong with having a decent ford/chev in the garage. Myself I would love to have a 58' Impala or a 41' Willy's. In the end Mopar is my first choice though. I gave up the idea of trying to explain car logic to women along time ago. Kinda like the wife trying to explain why it's necessary to own 11 pairs of shoe's. The information is there, but it doesn't click. At least she understands that cars are something I love and gives me my space with them. Sounds like those splash shields were a heck of a task!


I hear you on the Jefferson show Fish!!! Honestly they should start calling that the annual Camaro and Mustang show. For a guy looking for Mopar parts, it's like a needle in a haystack. Not to mention all the absolute junk people drag there and try to sell as something special. Not like it was several years back. The splash shields I found at a chevrolet tent. They had a sign on them saying "mopar tin" with an unhappy face on the sign. The guy said they got ordered by mistake. I was happy to take them off their hands.




Well boys........after wrapping up that last bit of block/prime on the quarters over the weekend, I can say it's time for me to hand over the reigns on the roadrunner to the painter.....don't know what i'm gonna do with myself :-(


All panels have been filed, skimmed, blocked, primed, blocked, guide coated, primed, sealed, blocked and final primed...

forgot to add, i think when will gets this car done he should print off this thread on paper and publish it, i for one would buy and use it as a "how to book reference guide"

Id like to tell you relax while the painter has it, but i know that wont happen, maybe you'll get lucky and get a good snow storm! Warm the snowmobile up, wax on and ready..
 
Thanks a bunch fella's!!! Great to know all you guys have been along for the ride on this one. I really do appreciate it! I know I still have a ton of work to do before she'll ever be tearing up the pavement, but i'm hoping it's safe to say the meat and potato's of the resto is now behind me.

It's funny you bring up "publishing a book" on the thread Roger. The wife was just hounding me tonight about this thread turning into a novel..LOL. She said to name it "going crazy...gone broke" LOL. Have to give her credit, thought it was pretty funny as well as accurate.

The car is down at Motion in Neenah Jay. Still going with black. Ever since Dave posted that black roadrunner pic, that image has been burned in my head. Glad to be following suit to the old man's black 69' RR he had as well. You guys should see the man...Feels like i'm the old timer and he's all of a sudden a 10 year old pie eyed kid drooling over the car every time he gets around it. Kinda looks live Dave's boy after pulling the walleye out of the ice...LOL

Ron, you know me too well buddy. Didn't take very long and i'm already tearing into more stuff. I tell ya....once a guy gets a momentum going, it's hard to stop. Or maybe i'm just compulsive? LOL! I ripped the heater box to pieces, blasted what metal I could and started to replace all the seals. Got a new heater core waiting to go in as well. One thing I also decided to do is convert the ammeter to a volt gauge. I should have thought it out a bit earlier, but decided to go with the Powermaster 140 one wire altenator, which pretty much requires a bypass or conversion (Fire hazard). So....ripped the dash back apart tonight and pulled the cluster. I'm about halfway done and will post some pic's tomorrow of the full conversion.

Will if you do end up putting this build down as a book or something along those lines I'm in for a copy! Like I said before,I've learned a ton from your resto...very cool work
