I sold an engine to another member on here and he wanted it shipped to him. I call a couple places and was quoted about $750 from Iowa to Michigan. Then I remembered hearing on here a few times about Fastenal shipping. I call them and then did an online quote. They shipped it for $195. I crated the motor and dropped it off at the local Fastenal store and boom it was delivered on time and intact. There is one thing about them that kind of stinks, they have a west zone and an east zone. They will not ship from the west zone to the east zone or vice versa.

Yup they are great to work with. The engine in my Charger came from a member here in Vermont via Fastenal. Too bad they closed my local store, need to drive an hour to one now.

It is really odd how they really keep a low profile about the shipping. Even finding it on their website is hard. But the process for getting a quote and the rest of the procedure is extremely easy.

It used to be easier to find. There was talk about them cancelling the service altogether and during that they made it a lot more difficult to find on the website. It's a great service, hopefully they will continue it!

I used the local Fastenal to ship some bigger stuff,
seats, hood, a pallet of suspension parts, never a whole engine
but not for a long time now, probably 10 (?) years
They were 1/2 the price of UPS or FedEx at a min. for bigger stuff
or way, way less, than other trucking/shipping companies...
The Fastenal 'Retail Store' here, down in Sonora has shut down,
not enough traffic/business
someone told me they still have the shipping hub there,
I didn't see it thou, looks like it all closed up, sad really...

They had great bolts nuts washers, grade 5, 8 & even 12 or aircraft quality
in differing heads/ or coatings or anodized etc.
12 pt, Allen, reg six sided, cap-screws or various countersunk, torx head &
different shank or/or thread lengths etc.
drilled for safety wire etc. of any/or many materials, I bought a lot of stainless stuff
& nylocks with stainless outers, it's really sad to see them go...
I used them for hardware/nuts & bolts stuff a lot, on my cars trucks/Jeeps,
various other projects, if they didn't have it they'd order it for you...

Fastenal is great to work with.
Building a custom chassis can
be challenging. I opened an account
with our local outlet and used their
hardware exclusively. They recognised
me by first name, and were genuinlely
curious and concerned of the build
progress.

My 68 Coronet decklid came through Grey Hound bus from Texas to Pa with-out issue years ago.. Don't know if they still do it.

I tried to use Gray Hound a couple times over the last 5 years or so. I contacted them and each time the cost was astronomically high. Honestly I really thought it was some sort of scam. I talked with them on the phone also and I felt something wasn’t adding up. Maybe I just wasn’t talking to the right contacts.

On the other hand Fastenal, as other have stated, is fantastic. I know about the East/West split, it changed during the covid time.

For smaller items Pirate Ship is tops. There has been discussions here and more on For-abodies-only if you’re interested.

We don't even have Grayhound in Canada any longer.
Greyhound morphed into MCI years
ago. Spent 15 years working for the
brand. Though Greyhound still
provides their transit services, many
terminals have been shut down w/
the change of new ownership.
They no longer build their own
coaches.

Shipped a transmission also through Fastenal. Very impressed with the service as well !

Fastenal unfortunately sucks in Canada. They refuse to deal with the average Joe, and they can be problematic even when you have an account. I do not believe they ever did offer the shipping option in Canada.

I received a transmission from Iowa through Fastenal. They seemed very grateful for the business, don’t think it could have been a smoother transaction.

The shipping is called Blue Lane Freight. It is a subsidiary of Fastenal. I have used them a few times and it always worked out great. It is true they only have two zones and will not cross from one to the other for some unknown reason. Simple to use though if you don't have to go out of the zone. You go to their online site and create the paperwork then drop it off at a Fastenal store.
Parts like engines and transmissions have to be crated and on a pallet. Here is their shipping site.

MCI builds busses, it doesn't transport people. Although Grayhound at one time owned MCI, it's been bought and sold many times since.
I know MCI does not have trans routes,
they just build the coaches. I still find it
odd that Canada has not made a big
investment in public transportation
when there's a manufacturer in their
living room.
MCI's engineering department used
to be in Roswell, NM, where they
shared a plant when Greyhound/Dial
aquired GM's RTS (city buses). I
worked on the RTS.

And at one time GrayHound Canada owned MCI as well.

We're not totally without intercity busses, for example Rider Express...just not GrayHound any longer.

Personally, as an ex railroader, I could ride Via Rail for free if I needed to travel like that. :)
