Federal or Saginaw ps pump?

Appears to be a small Trw pump. They are smooth like what you show in your picture.
Its either the wrong crank pulley or power steering pulley, because they slid the power steering pulley out to get it to align. Then it was tack welded in place so it didn't come off. That may be a pain to correct.
I think you would be better getting a different pump and pulley. Imo, easier to start with one that wasn't welded on.
It may be just a casting number your looking at. Not necessarily the part number for the pump. Not sure.

They are pretty expensive. I paid over $700 for a-rebuilt TRW for my PS conversion last year. That did include the bracket and hose (incorrect on) that you don’t need so that might knock it down to $600 +/-.

I have had pretty good luck getting used pumps. They put the small pump on a lot of cars. Just move your brackets over to it. I picked a working one on ebay for $50. Getting the correct pulley can be challenging and I think you likely have the wrong one currently. You need one with more offset.

I like the saginaw pump much better as far as steering feel. But, swapping it on a hemi is out of my expertise. You can buy the saginaw bracket and pulley from 440 source. I have no idea how the alignment will end up though. If you measure your power steering pulley on the crank I could compare to one I have that is for a saginaw bb pump.

That's the one I have on my 64 Polara. Same large return tube with a filter screen. Where did you send it for rebuild?

I may be mistaken but seems I remember gtx6970 has a Saginaw pump on his 66 Hemi. You might check with him. If I’m wrong you can point a finger at me to blame for the bad lead.

If it were me I would contact Steer and Gear and talk to them about rebuilding your TRW pump. I don’t think that weld on the pulley would pose any major problem for rebuilding. And with you furnishing a core to rebuild the cost would not be too bad. Their pricing on rebuilt pumps doesn’t include the can or mounting the can but if you send yours to them for a rebuild they would send you back a completely assembled pump. After taking out the core charge I think it would beat the price I mentioned above. I was starting from scratch and needed everything so at the time it looked like a good deal. But I think I could have done better through Steer and Gear.

Do these questions help pin down the actual pump I have? Do any of the pumps used in ‘66 have a reservoir to pump seal that is flat on each side vs “o-ring” round shape?
The reservoir seal groove shape in the pump housing I have is also rectangular not circular?

Pretty sure they all use a round cross-section o-ring but that’s just my observation of rebuilding the similar Federal pump. An o-ring that has been in there a long time and got hard will look almost rectangular when removed.

Other than the channel the o-ring sits in having flat edges, that’s what my logical (no steering pump experience) was telling me. Thanks for confirming I still got it.

I had way fewer problems/ leaks on my ‘68 when I switched to Saginaw from a ‘69 Charger. I’ll be building up a small TRW to swap back in using nos parts soon.

Saginaw is bolt in swap, except for belt.

Does your steering box have a 5/8" return hose not the pressure hose? It's kind of a big deal, it limits your choices of pumps. It can be changed
