I Can't find Federal pumps for a 1968 but 1969 Federal pumps are available.
Can I install a 1969 Federal pump in my 1968?
BBB Industries seems to be a major supplier.

If YES, will it attach to the existing mounting bracket, without issues?

The mounting should be the same, but the '69 may have the o-ring type fitting for the pressure hose vs. the flared fitting on '68-down. You may want to confirm that.

Thanks for the replies, but now I am a little more confused.
I thought that my only choices was Federal and Saginaw. I checked Chrysler Online and from the pictures there and other posts on this forum, I may have a TRW pump. At first glance, my shaft does not have internal threads. Chrysler Online price for a rebuilt TRW is about twice that of a new Federal Pump.
I am not sure what to do.
1- Will a Federal Pump fit on the existing bracket?
2- Will the existing pulley fit on the Federal Pump?
3- High pressure hose may still be an issue.
4- No matter what is done, will the original Steering Gear (rebuilt by Firm Feel) be an issue?
5- Will the pulleys still line-up with a Federal because the TRW pump is smaller?

Sorry for all these basic questions, but I just don't know enough. The service manual is not helping.

It’s not just you. Understanding the PS pump salad offering of different pump types and brackets for the 60s models confuses the heck out of me too. And for that reason I’m of no help except for this. And yes, the brackets are different for the different pumps.

Make sure your using a Federal pump. 68ish is the transition. You could have the small TRW pump. But a Federal pump is a federal pump for MOPAR. So it would not matter if it was a 68 or later date code. But some sellers do not know the difference and the labelling of what they are selling can be wrong.

Also you need to reuse your pulley to have the right configuration.

Thankyou, but I am a little thick in the head.
If I am interpreting you correctly, I can replace the TRW pump with the Federal pump and use the same pulley (removed from TRW Pump). A 69 pump can be used on my 68 but high pressure hose needs to be a 69. I am guessing that the 69 hose will still connect to my steering gear.
Thanks again.
John

No not what I am saying. I was assuming from your first post you have a federal pump. I was making the point that year of federal would not matter. Saginaw, TRW and Federal have different shaft diameters so pulleys don't swap. A TRW has different mounting bracket and specific pully for a 68 application that had a TRW pump. If your pump is bad get the same pump type.

If you have a Federal pump get a federal pump.

Sure you can go and install a Federal Pump in your 68 big block but engine matters. Hemi pulley different than 383/440. You would need Federal BB bracket, appropriate pulley which has to work with your crank pulley, and hose. Gets a lot harder to do that unless you have a pile of stuff to try.

So which pump do you have? Pictures help.

The steering box fitting size is larger from '69-up than '68-down.

Thankyou everybody. You stopped me from making a bunch of mistakes. I was hoping that the answers would have been different.
Back to the drawing board. Thanks again,
John

WHY NOT JUST HAVE STEERING AND GEAR REBUILD YOUR OLD PUMP as suggested? (Or similar company....but NOT ROCK AUTO)....The rebuilt pump will fit and function as new ..... without the trial and error hassles.....JMO,,,,,,
