Feedback on 500 inch build

Does it need to be built out of one of the Mega HP blocks?

block needs a block girdle at a minimum....

What do you guys think about indy's motors? They have a deal for a 630/630 cover to cover motor that I don't think I can pass up

Will you buy me one too?

My understanding has always been 600 HP and up you should start considering a different block. I know a lot of folks have blasted dyno runs with much more through a stock block, but you're talking about much more than a dyno run or two. Also, SUPERSTOCKRACER made another good point. The 440 Source stuff is ok, but it is chinkesium at its finest. Plenty of people run it. But when you start to think about how much you'd have in it doing it twice, going with the best first makes more sense.

Well I think it's about 12k for the 630/630 motor cover to cover with ignition and water pump. The more I look at it the more it makes sense.

I have a 528 ci Indy Hemi crate motor in the shop right now that we are rebuilding. It needed a massive rebuild at 500 miles. The list of corrections is extensive.

Not a 440 based 500 engine,but a 400 based 493 ci. engine.

Muscle Motors short block.
Scat rods.
Ross pistons.
Mopar 4.15 crank.
3/4 block fill.
Flat tappet cam.
Indy Sr heads.

Before the cam change to a solid roller the car went 9.50's.
According to the Moroso slide ruler.
3000 lb car 9.5 et=650 hp to the rear wheels.
250 pass's on block.
No girdle.
Replaced 1 sleeve.
I should put a girdle on the engine.
The car runs off a trans brake.

As far as the 440 Source rockers, mine are very noisy on my 512.

I have only missed 1 round of racing because of engine failure in the 250 pass's.
Engine was freshen'd up around 150 pass's.
Just trying to show with the right parts you should get reliability.

Womanator, I would certainly think you could be used as a benchmark of sorts. You say 650 at the tires. I don't doubt it. What would you think? 725-750 at the crank?

Should have mentioned this.
I did a all gear dyno run and got 683 rear wheel hp number in 3rd gear.
Forgot about doing that.
Haven't had the engine on a engine dyno.
Did the all gear dyno pulls to find out where my shift points should be for each gear as the peak tq numbers move with the different gear ratio's between gears.
It's also very hard on the car.
