Thank you. Wasn't a 8 3/4 a bit much for the small 318? Or maybe the axle changed somewhere during it's lifetime..

I'm sure it would be original. It would be the lighter duty one. The last three digits of the casting number would be 741.

This Coronet arrived in the Netherlands a couple of days ago. And is not mine yet. If all goes well the car goes on a lift tonight. That way we'll be able to see more of the car. And find out what engine and tranny are in it.

All the 1966 B body cars I've ever owned or seen except 225 six cyl cars have had an 8 3/4 axle.
Not sure about 273.

Yes, that is what you have.

There is nothing wrong with a 741 casting.

Most common ratio I've seen is 2.94:1

The poly is a good reliable engine, but performance parts, are much More plentiful for the LA engines.

Yes, harder to find parts for and items like a four barrel intake and headers are much more expensive.

My 66 poly was the torquiest 318 I've ever had.

One downside to the Polyspherical - much like its' big brother the Hemispherical - is it's relatively Heavy! A Poly is close to as much as a regular 440...like 50 or 70 pounds less, I believe?

Shortblock is same weight just heads and intake are heavier, but much wider than the LA. Much less hipo parts for the poly.
