After trying (and failing) to find some original inserts - the ones that slide into the front of the molding - I decided to make my own. The inserts that come with the new plastic clips are a weird design that look far less functional than the original. They are oblong, with a cheap-looking spring and hook design. Uhh... no!

So... necessity is the mother of invention.

Since I replaced the passenger quarter panel, I had to punch a couple of holes in the bottom of it for the molding clips... jeez, measure carefully!!
The trim popped on just fine, and she looks great. I wasn't looking forward to this part of the project, but it worked out great.

What better way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon. Well, a drive in the country would've been nice.

The front edge of the molding is about 3/4 inch from the wheel opening molding. I'm not certain about the exact location of the holes, but the top edge of the molding should sit about 1/8 to 1/4 inch down from the top of the rocker panel.

I measured mine, and noticed the driver's side is 1/8 inch down, and the passenger's side is 1/4 inch down. Yet another example of how Detroit wasn't big on precision in the 60's.
