Certainly a better tire would help some, but the 111 mph (I.e. horsepower) seems like it might be a bit off. Have you talked with Chuck or Pete about your numbers?

No. This was my first time ever going to the track in any car was letting off the gas to early. Motor made 615hp and 624tq. Hopefully the taller tire will drop my rpms

Rough numbers, you should have a 1/8 mile speed of 100 mph, and trap speed of 123 mph to go with that horsepower. You may have lifted early, but you're 1/8 mile mph suggests a trap of 115/116 mph.

Keep plugging away at it. It'll take some track tuning to dial it in if this is your first time.

Good start, you want some good advice from the racers here try and get a video of your passes then post them here for the guys to disect.

Yes thank you maybe next time went by myself. Drove the car from Lincon Park to Milan about 90 mile trip mainly a street car. Here was a better mph but was spinning.

congrats

I hope you had fun

that's what it's all about 1st & foremost

better #'s will come with the slicks

good luck

You will get there. This is my best so far and I run a 440/493 with EZ heads. Street car driven to the track and I never dyno'd my car but the charts say it should be around 600 flywheel hp. With your 615 hp you should be able to get in the 10's with hook once you get her tuned in real good. What does your car weigh ? I run 4.30's with a 30 x 9 tire. Good luck , Ron

Not sure yet on weight. I was running a p255 60r 15. M/T SS Dag radial. Just bought 28x9 15 ET drag. Trying new shocks also. I have kyb now and hd springs stock interior and full 3 inch exhaust.

Takes time to really learn how to drive well. Practice, practice, practice. Took me two years before I learned how to win a drag race. But once you get the feel for the car & get the feel for the lights & know how to drive the last 100' sure gets fun.

Thanks everyone for the advice and likes. Just ordered Viking warrior shocks for all four corners. Hopefully make some more passes before winter.

M/T ET Street SS 255’s should have no problem dead-hooking an 11-second B-Body. If they were spinning, track prep must have been really poor, or you had too much air in them. I’ve run 255 ET Street Radials on my car, they hooked great at 16 lbs. the ET Drags May hook better, but they generally will not be faster. If both hooked up, the Radials will be a little faster. I would have gone with ProBracket Radials; best of both worlds if you ask me. But I may be splitting hairs.
115+ mph suggests you have the beans to go 11.50’s, maybe even quicker. I’d still expect a little more out of an Indy headed 500” in a B-body with 4.10’s. I’ve attached one of my time slips for reference, your combo should be good for a little more than mine. Keep at it, it’ll take time and trial & error to get the most out of the combo.
As said earlier.... Fun is the main goal, so make sure that’s part of the plan as well.

Getting the suspension takes time also. Shocks can sure help, but tuning them & playing with spring clamps takes time & runs. You should have power to go into the 10's. Good luck. Keep making runs.

If I may,
I just put Viking 18 way double adjustable front shocks and Competition Engineering CEE-2730 3 way adjustable shocks on the rear. 315/35/17 Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials.
My drive home from the shop was worrisome, because the front felt stiff.
Any suggestions on front compression and rebound for crusing and alternatively for the track? Rears are set at 50/50 for now. All other suspension parts are stock. 70 Roadrunner 440+6 Passon a855 5 speed, 4.10 Dana 60, no weight reduction. I bent my Mancini pinion snubber so I took it off.
Thanks.

Does Viking give suggestions? My QA1's give some starting points. Again it takes trials to figure it out. If the front felt stiff on the street, loosen the compression a few numbers. I expect you find that what feels good on the street won't be what the car wants at the strip. Certainly at the track the fronts want lower rebound resistance, maybe moderate compression. The rears, depend on how hard the springs want to arch. If you hurt the Mancini snubber, I presume lots of spring reaction. Clamping the rear leafs may help. I took my pinion snubber off fairly early in my racing days. I used the leaf spring combination & the shocks. Worked for me. Took the snubber off my Satellite right away. If the springs are arching enough to hurt the snubber, clamp the spring in the rear half. You may only want a 2-3" rise. You may need to work/change the leaf spring package. I changed mine many times on '65 Coronet before getting the results I wanted. Now with my Satellite doing the same thing. Cal Tracs may be my next move. Good luck

I was running 15psi with the drag radial. I couldn't get them to hook. Test and tune I don't think they prep. What is your rpm going through the traps?

My 1st experience way back. I built a super charged 340 Volare . Factory heads, .460" hyd cam, 7.5-1. Very early in my learning curve. I was thrilled it would go 13.60s@107. As time went along I learned how slow it was. With nothing changed except a pair of well worn borrowed slicks, 12.32@111. Opened the exhaust, 11.88@114. Bigger exhaust it eventually ran 11.71@117 thru the mufflers. Still no changes in the engine. Freshened the motor and added a .550" cam, 11.60@122. Swapped the conveter, 2 weeks later, 11.01@123. Still thru the mufflers at 3890lbs. So as we see the mph can be manipulated by tires, converter, suspension. Chucks a good engine builder. I'm sure quicker times aren't far away.

Made it to the scale yesterday my car weighed 3600lbs + 175 driver. Put the viking shocks on very happy with them.

At that weight, more suspension tuning & practice will produce big improvements. My Satellite didn't improve much from the 325 BFG Drag Radials to slicks. You will be in the 10's pretty soon.

Frame connectors for sure over the winter and possibly a small cage. 4pt would be nice. All I have now is a lap belt.
