Hey all,

Finally have some money and got my hands on a large water jacket 440 block and want to build it up as a performance oriented street able engine.

I called Mancini, Scat, and a bunch of performance Mopar builders in Florida and they all have Chinese made cranks/pistons/rods/etc.

I don't mind paying more money or getting quality old us made "laying around" parts from this board or the various selling sites, but what brands of parts are out there for me to build a . 30 over stroked 440 (around 500 cubes)?? Seems that brands I thought were in the US are now forged overseas and at best assembled and finished here :-(

If there aren't many options what are the best Chinese brands from everyone's experience?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the wonderful world of everyone wanting to save a buck resulting in mostly nothing but Chinese parts. I'll be interested to see what this thread turns up, like you I want no Chinesium parts on my Mopar and ended up using all Genuine old Mopar parts on mine. Did you check with Indy or Muscle Motors?

x2 on what 747 mopar said. Reconditioned factory rods with arp bolts are pretty stout. They don't break the bank and it puts money in a local machine shop's pocket instead of china.

US made brands (I think) : Oliver, Carillo, Callies, Crower, Diamond, Ross. Callies has an economy line of chinese sourced stuff now so watch out (compstar maybe?)

For what it sounds like you are doing, 440 Source, great customer service. For the best Chin-com I use Molnar, best quality, best brain.

Callies is who my first call would be for the good stuff.

you may have to piece a kit together. Oliver rods are made in the USA as well.

if you are seriously going to campaign the car, that is what i would do.

i went with 440 source because im just making a street machine (noise maker). the crank i got was a pretty nice piece for 500$

I have been told that Ohio Crankshaft has their stuff forged right there in Ohio as well as machined in house. http://www.ohiocrank.com/home.html

However, SCAT has given me great experiences on three diff sets of rods and 2 crankshafts. No "adjustments needed". I also hear great things about Molnar, too.

100% USA made is available. Just considered and priced as the highest price point.
For what you are looking to do, type on that Japanese computer or your Chinese iPhone and order a mid to lower price point kit.

I've used 440Source, Scat, and Muscle Motors kits. I've used Callies, Eagle, 440 Source, Scat, and MP as components. The lower price points will probably need some correcting and finishing if your shop is picky. Mid price point may not. All parts should be carefully checked by a shop. Personally I do not trust Source's balancing either - I'd prefer to have it done at my shop.
