I have a 72 charger with a 340 and I was wondering about one of these steering boxes. I'm going to adjust the one I have before buying one but if anyone can tell me how the stage 2 or 3 feels driving that would be great. I don't plan on getting the pitman or idler arms from them, just the box.

I used a firm feel stage 2 and it tightened up the steering alot. My box original had about 5 inches of play in it and now none. It still has the power steering feel to it.
I recommend that you talk to richard at firm feel about it

Agreed! I too just had my gearbox rebuilt to a stage II by Firm Feel. I haven't yet installed it in the car, but it looks like a new unit. They're customer service was outstanding and they couldn't have been more helpful with answering my questions. Give them a call and they can assist you in determining what it best for your particular application.

My dad called firm feel and asked them on advice on our current steering box before we buy one of theirs. Said to wait until we're at the car and they can walk us through every single thing to do. And if that doesn't work, we're ordering a stage 2 or 3, whatever they recommend.

Ditto! I did Stage 2, I thought they painted mine silver when i got it back, but it was just really clean metal. I have since painted it black, cant wait to drive it.

Thanks Stuart, im adding this with the Firm feel, if there just as good, cant hurt to check on them to.. Good thread!

Just went with a Steer and Gear level 2 box and am very happy with it. ...plus they were very helpful and quick service.

steer and gear here too. Sent my box and pump and they modified to the firm feel, rebuilt both, and tested as a pair. Got them back in less than two weeks. Good folks to deal with.

If you're just wanting less of a boosted feel to your PS, there are a couple of low bucks approaches to it as well. One, find a 6 cyl pump for your engine, the pump pressures are about half what the 8 cyl is, OR.... a simple fix if you don't want to pay the price of used 6 cyl pump: http://www.moparaction.com/Tech/beep/PUMP_IT_DOWN-re-v1.4.pdf

in my car yes the to much boost and over steer was a factor , but the real reason i love it is no more play in the box , then a plus is the firm feel is awesome .

Well my box is too far gone to make any adjustments. I'm going with the stage 2 firm feel. Stage 2 should be just right for my car.

I will comment even though this thread is almost 2 years old. I like my stage 2, now that I can drive the car finally, pardon the pun, but it does feel a lot more firm then my original gear box!

I ended up buying the stage 3 box after doing some research, unfortunately I don't have my car running yet so I have no 1st hand experience. What I gleaned from my reading was, everybody that bought the stage 2 and stage 3 were happy but about 1/2 the guys with stage 2 wished they had bought the stage 3. None of the stage 3 guys wished they had the stage 2.

Got stage 1. Wish stage 2. Still a huge improvement. Straight as an arrow now. No corrections. Steering wheel diameter a big factor.
