Flywheel rubs against inspection cover

It looks like the flywheel is the problem I would not use that one.

A replacement 143 tooth 11 inch flywheel should be the fix.

It looks to me like the where the flywheel bolts to crank it is counter bored?? If yes, that flywheel is definitely the problem. You could have someone cut some off the engine side to gain clearance, but then it would need re-balanced...and I would question ring gear/starter location.

We are thinking that might be the trick. There wasn’t an inspection cover on the car when i bought the car 20 years ago.

I’m thinking now i know why.

You might want to take some measurements on the flywheel before you drop more coin. It looks pretty funky on the engine side, but I’ve never had a factory 11 incher

Does your pan forward face angle toward the rear?
If so, maybe a shim at the arrow?

We’ve discussed shimming various locations and even shimming or using a spacer between the crank and flywheel but id like to get to the bottom of it and solve the problem rather than shimming.

I do appreciate the comment. We’ve discussed it. Just hate to shim something then put the motor in and have other but related issues.

This care seemed to have taken some abuse, as they all did. Never understood why someone would paint the springs and the rear end white but whatever.

You can see photos from when i first purchased the car, no inspection cover on the assembly. So guess it’s not a new issue. Guess I should run it with out an inspection cover!! Just kidding.

Ordering a new flywheel today.

Thanks to all who participated. I don’t know flywheels very well and would’ve never thought to look at the backside and btw most photos of flywheels for purchase don’t show the engine side.

Those photos are from 1998 BTW, purchased the car in Texas then life happened: marriage, divorce, Iraq, Job change, move, more mopars, marriage, divorce etc. etc.

This Charger is my longest relationship to date!

Examples of what she will look like below too. 4 speed, hardtop, GG1 paint, white bumblebee stripe and magnum 500’s just like when she rolled off the line in Hamtramck. One of 2,743 RT 4 speeds.
