Yesterday rail fans here in Pennsylvania got some great news. The East Broad Top Railroad founded in 1871 was sold to a non profit that pledges to and has the means to get the railroad back in operation. A little history, this is the only original and complete narrow gauge railroad east of the Rockies. The EBT was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. The railroad was added in 1996 to the National Trust for Historical Preservation's list of America's Most Endangered Places. When the railroad went out of business all its equipment and right of ways were bought by Kovalchick Salvage, elected not to scrap the railroad right away, and began tourist operations on 5 miles of the track in 1961 until 2011 when its operation shut down. There are 6 steam locomotives and other vintage equipment that was part of the coal hauling operation

EBT is famous for having all their equipment and shop left as if all the employees simply walked away, and it stayed that way for years.
