My parents had a Chevette while I was in high school (1976) - went on my first "car date" in one of those. I would always tell my friends when I borrowed it from my parents that I was bringing the "Vette" ... ha ha!

My family had a couple of them over several years, when I was young. I was so damn embarrassed of those cars at that time. I’d love to own one now. My point is related to a lot of cars over time. Cars that used to be laughing stocks are now very desired. El Camino, Dodge Darts, etc. etc. It’s funny how time changes our point of views.

Chevettes seam to be pretty damn rare today. Usually, there’s at least a couple cars listed of any make or model on Ebay. Regardless, how rare they are. Not Chevettes, I’ve searched them a few times over the last year or so. Not one car available. Regardless, of condition.

I knew of a chevette that I really wanted!




Big block chevy/turbo 400 swaped in, under the windshield. Drive to track, run 10s, drive home, repeat.

I can remember back in the late 80’s / early 90’s. What was left of the Chevettes. Guys were souping them up and taking them to local tracks. There were a few nice ones around here at that time. Big rear slicks, velocity stacks, etc. You can’t find them anymore. They might be more rare than a 69 Hemi car, lol !

Didjaknow, there was a diesel chevette? With a five speed stick (no auto option), 51hp, 0-60 of 20 seconds (!?!) and 55mpg. The very definition of rare, but undesirable.

Yes there was and I see each year in Flint. There is one of these that show up every year to the Back to the Bricks show in Flint. Its the only one I have ever seen.
