I don't think it looks bad as a convertible. He just executed it poorly, if his goal was to make it look like it came from factory that way, he missed.

Looks like crap but might work if you just left the top and back seat out of the equation all together and used a filler panel up to the backs of the front seats similar to the '62 Thunderbird Sports Roadster.

Look for the 71/72 GTX done by the Wing car people. Their car looked bitchin.

a local guy has a 69 convertible, car looks awesome. That grey car is ready for a roof to be put back on, I don't wanne be behind it on the highway when that top fills with air and detaches with the quarters attached...
