Interesting fender tag. According to it, the car should be black, with a red painted top, and black interior. But my guess is they got the body and roof paint codes reversed.
I would bet on a tag screw up. Should be R4 X9 H2X X9 in that order (more than likely)
I have owned it since 84 and saw no signs of a black body, I wish I had the broadcast sheet but they were all missing. It has always has a vylan top since i have owned it. I did repace it and it was a glossy black under it with a greyish primer peaking under that . ?
The tag is laid out correctly (X9 top over R4 body) and the car is coded V02 for a two tone paint job. The glossy black you saw was probably the original painted top.
Too bad someone put the vinyl top on it. A two tone RR is fairly rare as only about 1.4% of the HTs sold (~650 cars sold in the US) were two tones.
What happened to the headrests?
Good luck with the sale.
Yup. Two tone cars had the halo or C pillar trim to separate the colors just like a vinyl top car had
Not that big of a deal. It already had the trim, so it's not like punching holes in the C pillar for trim so you can put a top on a car that didn't have one to begin with
