A few months ago I found a 71 HP block in Germany for my 71 Suburban 440 4spd project.

VIN stamp: 1A110317
Casting date: May 18, 1970
Assembly date: August 14, 1970

It still has the heavy rods in it, but mated to TRW L2295 pistons. Crank is toast (ran without oil) and balancer is MIA. It came out of a 69 Charger in Dukes of Hazzard paint that was used by Warner Brothers as promotional vehicle for the 2005 movie. Car ended up in Germany about 19 years ago (around the release of the movie I guess).

Just wondering if someone might know if the engine is from a 440 4bbl or 440 6bbl B-body car.

Nice find, August is a pretty early build date for a 71 engine but is possible.
There are guys on here with far more information about this kind of identification than myself.
As far I know you need the original cars VIN number to tell if that block was from a U code or V code car.
I think August would have had a cast iron mopar intake not the aluminum that came along.
But never say never when it comes to
Ma Mopar over the span of 50 plus years information and records ( dealer add ons ect. ) get lost to time.
You may find some help in this web sight with what you have of the VIN
The 1970 Hamtramck Registry Library Page (1970 - 1974)
The Charger that the engine was pulled from if a Duke clone would have been a second gen not a 71 so that would be a dead end.
posting here is a good start in the search , I still have the registration copy from my 71 V code that,I sold in 1977.
Lol, i did look , no luck.

If he is wondering if its a 6 pack or 4bbl car couldn't he tell by the rods?

I wasn't sure but thought it might have been only a 6 pack/barrel thing.

Had a 70 440 RT Challenger convertible with 4 bbl carb....it had the weighted balancer like what came on the 6 bbl engines.
