Fresh 440 Build - Water in Oil

Welll, if you’ve got a cracked head/cyl. maybe. Go with the above suggestions first for piece of mind. Usually it takes awhile to get the heat into play.
 
Do you think there could be enough water getting into the cylinder and past the rings down into the oil to cause the mayo, without steam coming from the exhaust (and in only a few minutes of running)?

The leak down tester would show a head gasket leak or a crack somewhere with more pressure being in the cylinder instead of the radiator test at a lower pressure. Having your radiator tester on the radiator and having say 80 to 100lbs of pressure in the cylinder, will show on your radiator pressure testors guage quicker.

It could be like you said just a buildup of condensation from sitting all of that time. But I would want to be thorough on testing for an internal leak. Water in the oil is like having sand in it, very damaging.

Finding the foam on the dipstick could just be from condensation and useing a high detergent oil. Does the dipstick have any rust at all? Maybe in the tube? If it does, it's a good sign of condensate being there before you fired it. How about under the valve covers, any signs of rust?

What oil are you useing?
 
Gotcha. No rust on any internal surface that I can gain access to. Running basic Penzoil 10-W30 w/ Comp Cams Break-in Additive just for break-in. Ill borrow a leak down tester, and go from there. Thanks for all your help guys!
 
No, but it didn't sit for a day or too before I drained it. I saw a little brown/white swirl it in, but mostly it just looked like assembly lube contaminated oil. I have all the used oil still thats been sitting for a few days in a jug, and pumped some out from the very bottom and its just oil. If there is any water, Its a very small amount, but like I said, it only ran for a few mintues. But the dip stick had about an inch of mayonnaise on the end.

Im starting to think I just freaked out over nothing.
Could have been from air in the oil pump. Did you prime it before start up?
 
Any chance you've pulled the valve covers, to take a look? Might not be needed, but it would give you a better look inside the motor, for any signs of rust. Just thinking out loud, and that would let the motor 'air out' a little, if nothing else.

If it was condensation, there would be signs of it inside the valve covers.
 
I did pull the valve covers and saw no signs of rust or condensation. The valve covers were only loosely bolted on while it was in storage. They were the aluminum MP ones. I now have the stock chrome covers back on. I haven’t found any other obvious water contamination anywhere, including looking through the distributor hole or under the valve covers.

One side of the dip stick was white and the other was clean (the side facing slightly up was contaminated.) its seems like the amount of moisture that would burn off once it got hot, unless more water was introduced.
 
Sorry to drag this one back up, but thought I would update it so anyone who finds it in the future would know. The little amount of water in the oil seemed to just be condensation, and burned off. I completed the cam break-in with no issues, no more water in the oil, no bubbles in the radiator, no overheating. Everything looks to be A-OK. Thanks everyone for the help. Car is one step closer to being a driver.
