Does anyone have any pics of where they mounted their front speakers. I bought some 5 inch round speakers for my 68 charger but cant figure out where to mount them. I found a great spot for the tweeters but not sure where to mount the front bigger ones. Thought about the kickpanels but they're too thin. Thanks

I'd mount them behind the kick panels

I looked last night and it wont work. The speaker would be sticking outta the panel too far

Im gonna try n make some custom mounts under the dash. Try n hide them a bit

Ah I see, how far do they stick out?
only other place would be under the dash as you mention.

About 4 inches. The speakers cant be recessed into the body where the kick panel is

When doing front speakers I normally use 4" Alpines. They will mount in the recess behind the kick panels and project the sound really well.
I also love using the Pioneer tune ups...sound great and can mount just about anywhere, top right corner of picture. Yes... if you look hard enough they are still out there. Picked up a set last year BNIB for $60

Beezee is right on with the undercover 2 speakers. They are amazing I find them better than the 6x9s on the package shelf.
I hid all the stereo in my 65 the only thing you can barely see is the tune ups.

I think you're right the 5" would be too big for the kick panels, but check out posts #26 and 28, Propwash fit some 4's in the kick panels no problem and it looks pretty clean!

I was gonna do that and run 2 polk 3" speakers up on top of the dash in the outer positions since it's a factory 3 speaker dash anyway. Should sound pretty good and not lose the stereo separation like 2 3" together in the center position would.

I installed a pair of Polk Audio DB401 4" speakers in my kick panels. They are marine grade. So, no worries about water. I had an old nasty set of panels to test fit; good thing, too. I got it right on the good panels. Just measured 4" from the bottom and 4" in from the edge, drill a 4" hole with a hole saw and install speakers. They overlap the rolled edge a bit but they have too in order to fit the recess behind each panel. There's about 1/4" clearance between the e-brake and the speaker grill. Woohoo!

Here's a few photos:

Use your good kick panels to make a pattern then custom build a set using MDF. If you have even a hint of woodworking skills it'll be a piece of cake.
I would imagine there's more than one YouTube video covering this.

I thought about it until I saw how little room there is by the e-brake pedal.
Don't get me wrong, you did a great installation. I just figure it's better than sacrificing yet another set of B-Body kick panels.
Are you going to spray those speaker grilles black?

I didn't really waste anything. Besides, you can buy a set of new kick panels for about $75 a par. I had two sets. One crappy set (they were 2 different colors and shedding plastic texture) and one not so bad but not show quality, either. I trashed the crappy set before I got the measurements right. They came in the car and I paid about $35 for the other set.

I'm not planning on painting the speaker grills at the moment. I thought about that, too. But the tweeters are silver and would be difficult to paint since they're part of the speaker. They protrude through a whole in the center of the grills.

Possibly if they were moved up higher and rearward....???
I know you've already purchased your speakers but they (mfgs) also make a shallow mount speakers....I'm sure this has be done in various fashions sucesfully...
You can certainly talk to a reputable custom car stereo center, I'm sure they could give you more options...

Do not paint the tweeters. At the very least wrap the grille in speaker fabric and re-install.
