Have you tried doing an rpm run up in neutral to make sure the vibration isn't something else?
That's the info I was looking for. Thank you. The one in the car measures 52" center to center of u joints, I'd say we got the right one.The original driveshaft for a 1968 Coronet with a 383/4spd & 8.75 is part # 2852162 it is 52.07" long...
Yes I haveHave you tried doing an rpm run up in neutral to make sure the vibration isn't something else?
It had some movement, enough to see it , so I put new bushing in last year. The old one did'nt appear worn and the new one left me with about as much play as I had so then I bought new yoke and complete driveshaft balanced from Driveshaft Specialist out of Texas. Still about the same, I'm not sure what normal is but I can move it up down side to side enough to see and feel it moving. How much up/down side/side play does the yoke have inside the tail shaft?
d.s. is good, all clips presentLook at driveshaft make all the clips are in place. If one is missing could cause a vibration. Long shot.
I've tried two different complete d. shafts one used and one new with new yoke and the vibration is exactly the same, no variation of any kind so how much play is "normal" in a front yoke? One other thing left.....can anything in the rear end cause alot of vibration without making any noise? This bad vibration started when I swapped gears, I swapped with a complete restored rear end... housing, brakes and all. the rear is quiet no rumble, or bearing noises or gear noises. there seems to be some play when I have rear tires in the air and turn them forward and backward it seems sloppy. Not sure what size (OD) of the yoke is supposed to be, but you could look that up and measure yours to see if there’s any difference.

No, yoke and u joint feel tight. I can only think bent axle maybe?? I'm thinking I'm going to pull the pumpkin out and go back to 3.23 gears and while I got it apart look for anything wrong. I'm out of idea's and running low on hope. How can a vibration so bad be so hard to find?Does the yoke on the rear end move up/down?
They are good. I got it on hoist and going to start taking rear end apart, check out ring and pinion preload, check for bent axle or bad bearings in carrier and axles.Check all the bolts and front/rear spring hangers.
