Happy new year, What are you running for (fuel filter with a return) I have been running one of the little one’s with the return on my 69 GTX but seems I’m always having fuel pump problems at least every year don’t know if it might be the return in the filter letting gas go back to the tank instead going to the carburetor. Any thoughts would be appreciate. KB9GIB southern Illinois

I suggest testing the pump output first. A good pump will overcome that small return orifice to fill the fuel bowl so check volume. I am assuming you have a mechanical pump.

Is that the reproduction vapor separator? Some of them they have had problems with...

I am also using a filter with vapour return line, I did come across problems once and found the filter being blocked with dirt. (caused by the suction screen of the pick up in the tank fell apart)
Assuming your filter is after the pump, the strainer does not "protect" the pump from any debris.
As Mike suggests, I would check the pump but also have a look what is inside your fuel tank, might be dirty or as I had a f*cked up strainer.

Maybe not applicable in your case, but on my route of finding my fuel supply issue I found the push rod that operates the pump lever worn out badly.
This caused the pump not to be fully stroking causing a lack of fuel in the carb at high loads.
After replacing the rod and installed a new pump I never had problems with that again.

Ok thanks guys I’ll check the pressure. I’m at work and my son said it started right up today Monday. yesterday Sunday it would not pump enough gas to the carburetor to even start the car so any other suggestions will be appreciate it I’m terrible troubleshooting. Thanks KB9GIB

Fuel pump push rod may be an issue as well.

In my case it was only noticable at high load/WOT that it would suffer from fuel starvation.
But yeah, when worn out badly it might barely pump any fuel i guess.
