I purchased a EZ EFI 1 to put on top of my new 440 with a Comp cam 21-226-4 and Edelbrock heads. Five days of calling FAST and still no luck getting the thing to work correctly. It won't idle, start on it's own or pump without turning on the FP continuously. The RPM mod. was bad out of the box and now FAST says the ECU is bad. Is this all I can expect from this company, garbage? I really wanted to explore the possibilities of EFI but I'm about a hair away from ripping this thing out. Any suggestions out there as to what to run on it?
 
I put the same on my dad's 440 (stroked to 505) and had a b!tch of a time to get it started. I had to adjust the idle screw to get the blades to open a bit, and it finally kicked off. Now to your problem. The fuel pump will run for a few seconds then shut off (normal) and when you go to start, it should fire off and now the pump is running all the time. Once you have it running, adjust the regulator to 43-45 psi and you should be good.....run on it's own. Now you need to drive it so it can start learning. Also, did you adjust the target AFR'S?
 
The fuel pressure is at 43psi as recomended. Can not get the thing to prime (the initial fuel squirt) to even fire, it has to be manually primed with gas before it will fire, fuel pump is working. It will run at about 1500 rpm with the fuel pump turned on continuously running, but will not idle and blows black smoke as well as blowing raw fuel out the tailpipe. Frankly I'm afraid to try to drive it it's a brand new motor and I sure don't want to damage the internals. You installed the FAST EZ EFI correct? FAST now says I need a new ECU, straight out of the box.....
 
If it were mine, I'd stick on a carb and at least break in the rings because if you keep messing with a very rich condition, the rings will never break in.....if it isn't too late already. There's a lot of reasons why rings won't break in and fuel wash down is one of the big ones.
 
Yah that is the answer for the immediate fix. It disappoints me to no end that I have $2,000 in this pile of junk! Thanks

I wonder how many other people have had these problems with the FAST EFI products, there are a lot of reviews online and very few are complimentary, Holly on the other hand has a few positives but does anyone here have any experience with any of these other brands of EFI?
 
70B. If you want to send me your file, I will be happy to look at it. Sounds like your startup is out of sync. Also, if you can record a data file while it is running, that will help. I am thinking a bad map sensor or possibly a corrupt program. I ran the fast system since before it was f.a.s.t. It is incredible system.
 
I've heard some good things about the FAST system too but have never messed with FI except for stock factory stuff and then it was mostly checking injectors and replacing ones that wouldn't work right. As for the electronics of it....that's another matter.
 
Big 3 x never start a new Motor with un tested equipment. Switch to a carb break it in before you wipe the Rings out if you have not already. I am sure you can get to to work, but not at the risk of your motor.
 
I installed an Edelbrock EFI about 6 weeks ago. Love it. I actually got a muscle car garage to install it. I got the system that comes with a sump tank that eliminates the need for an electric fuel pump in line or in the tank. It runs good, reliable, self programing and better fuel mileage. I had to upgrade my electronic ignition with a MSD 6AL. I'm thinking of getting one for my other 440. It does everything I wanted it to do.
 
Like others say. Get it running with carb.

I did an MSD Atomic fuel injection. I found many of my questions answered on the forum they had on MSD's website.

Join FAST's web forum and get help from the users there.
 
Your rings are probably gone already possibly. I washed my cylinders in a new build with a faulty 850 annular (rear boosters were just drowning fuel into the engine) and bores need rehoning and new rings

I barely drove it too before realizing the problem swapping to a good carb

more the bores shiny than the rings. but put new rings in anyway

never start a new engine with an untested fuel system. I did and had to do it over again. I had got used to modding gm lsx's for a while
 
I appreciate the offer, right now I'm waiting for a new ECU from FAST before I do anything more. Quite frankly if this doesn't work out I'm putting in a standard carb.
 
Hello 70b thank you for the fast 2.0 post I'm thinking of buying 2.0 for my 65 coronet so far I see only complaints were you able to get the problems solved ? I would love to hear what happed in the end thx bobo
 
Get the Holley Terminator kit......way better!!!!!
 
The bottom line, I ripped it out, threw it in a box and never want to see it again! Nothing but bad parts and a lot of $$$$. I put in a Holley 850. It now runs freaking great.
