Fuel Leak - Spillage and fumes

I Siphoned all the gas out, or as much as possible, so no real need for extra support Empty tank is not heavy, Maybe 20 lb at most.

You may want to pick up several feet of 1/2" or 3/4" line to siphon with, and a couple of 5 gal gas cans just in case.

I forgot to mention there are four vent lines at the top back of the tank near the differential that you may have to deal with if you completely remove the tank. It think they are 5/16", and have those permanent type hose clamps. Oh and the sending unit ground strap. It just clips on the sending unit line and the steel fuel line.

This. This was intelligence that I did not posess last night. Syphon. Would have made life so much easier... Sigh, should have come back here to read before I started. Oh well, I have the weekend I suppose.

Dont be surprised to see some rotted hoses on the top of the tank too! Good opportunity to fix them! Plan on this. Leaking gas is bad, and a little gas goes a long way as far as smell. This is a good opportunity to make ALL things right. Is the fuel gauge accurate? Will you clean the tank pick-up screen? I'm just saying, "Do it while you're there!"

Thanks, you're definitely right, I'll be checking everything tank related while I'm there. The tank and sending unit are both new, not sure why he didn't replace the grommet too. I'll keep am eye out for all other things rubber too though, as nearly everything that is rubber is dry rotted everywhere else on the car... Lol
