Fuel pump install help

I pushed the push rod as far in the engine as it will go and put the pump on the engine and theres an 1/8th inch gap at the bottom of the pump before it sits flat against the block. I dont wanna tighten it and break something. Its a 440 engine with a carter pump. Thanks
 
Bump the engine around about half way. The rod is probably sitting on the higher part of the lobe.
 
Do the above, or tighten away. This is normal.
