Using a new 3/8 fuel sender, run a new stainless line, Clay smith pump, eliminated the charcoal canister, 850 holley dbl pump..

Should I run a inline filter closer to the fuel sending unit or close to the mech pump?

My fuel sending unit is a 3/8 (for 440ci) and clay smith pump is a 1/2 line in/out. Should i be using a 1/2 line?

Should I use a regulator before the carb?

Prob no return line and block off the the line at the pump-anything im forgetting?

good question. i will be interested in the responce. as you know i will be 1/2" from in the tank with a clay smith to the regulator. i plan on a course filter in-line before the pump and a fine in-line after the pump before regulator.
you should have a regulator due to the up and down line sizes and that pump. as stated good question.

Just bought a dual feed regulator for my 4150 holley with return-
-That will help my high pressure pump cycle with out wearing out.

I took a small high school mechanics coarse but that was 15 yrs ago ...they never showed anything about mods for big blocks.
They showed more chevy stuff than anything else- go figure

I run the factory Hemi style set-up in my Super Bee.I have stainless 3/8 fuel line and 1/4 return, installed a vapor separator at the mechanical high volume Carter fuel pump and used a 3/8 fuel tank sending unit.My engine builder told me the fuel system was adequate.

I've got a Holley red pump, 1/2 Aluminum line from sender to regulator then a (-6) line in to a Russell fuel rail with in line filter.(see pic)
I'm now changing this set up to a dual (-6) into the carb with dual inline filters.

I'm running without a return line for now but for you guys running a return line on a fuel cell - do you return into the bottom of the tank or the top? Most cells have dual outlet ports and many of the return lines I've seen go into one of the ports.

must be returned to the top of the tank.

You would think so but I have seen them going back into a lower port. I would be concerned with the potential flow interuptions by going back along side of the intake port - but then on the other hand I also wonder about the continuous airiation from dumping it on the top..

If you try to push fuel into the bottom it will place huge strains on the pump. The gas is trying to push out and the pump is trying to push it back in. I dont run return lines on gas, only diesel. Why the return line? Electric pumps run on demand..stop running when the float in the bowl lifts the needle that stops fuel from entering.. Am I missing something???
I always put filters downstream of my pumps. A pump can handle a little grit, and all pumps push better than they can pull; especially through a semi clogged filter. I would rather have a pump shut down pushing against a clogged filter than burn itself up trying to pull from a clogged filter. Between the filter and the carb is the fuel pressure guage to let you know if you are clogged.
