I have replaced the gas tank with a used one, correct for the car. The car had a C body tank installed and things were butchered. The "J" bolt brackets were removed. I have the vent line located in the trunk but I am missing the shorter tube and not sure what its purpose is. What vent line on the tank connects to the line in the trunk? Is it the inboard or outboard tank vent tube? Once I understand what the layout for the tank vents are then I can address a fix for the missing part. If anyone has a picture of the tube connections I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Based upon the manual the longer vent tube (one in trunk) connects to the passenger side outlet of the fuel tank. The shorter vent tube connects to the driver side outlet of the fuel tank. There purpose is to vent the fumes and vapors due to expansion, from driving, filling up etc...Hope this helps bud.

Thanks the reply. I do not have the "short tube". Where does it terminate? I will need to install a rubber hose, for the short term. Is it an "over flow" or vapor vent? On the tank that was removed, the "short tube" vent was block/closed with a rubber hose, bolt and clamp.

FSM will show you all the "layouts" you desire. It will also help you to be able to research and answer other members questions for nothing.

Thank you for the information. I am not familiar with the term FSM. Where is it located? How is it used? Very interested to learn more.
Regards,
Bryan

Field service manual. You should be able to find one on ebay. Just look for one for your car, they are a must if your putting thing back as they where.

Thanks. Silly me, I should have figure out the FSM. I have one that is falling apart. It does show a side view of the tank, just not a front view that shows where the "short tube" would go or where it terminates.

Just a nit...it's actually Factory Service Manual if you're doing a google.
