One idea I had was to make a bench on wheels so I could easily move it. I like your idea of keeping benches to the rear for the work area. And waiting until the cars are here to begin with anything permanent. I had some help on most of the garage, but trying to get all of the help to the party at one time was difficult. I wanted to keep the cost down, so doing everything was and is my goal. It is alright if you want to share what your garage looks like. Especially if you are sharing your layout of benches, shelves and cabinets!

As a result of working on the garage, I have had no time to work on the cars. Everything takes time. I built a house back in the 90's so I know what you are talking about. Just do what you can and keep plugging away and one day you will look up and be very proud of what you have accomplished. Have a blessed day!

My garage thread is on here if you want to check it out. Mine is laid out differently because it's a 2 story 32X34 with a bathroom that will have a small machine shop plus a 24X24 addition. Being 32ft wide my bench ended up against the wall opposite to the lift seeings how the lathe took up the whole rear wall. This is why I suggested putting your cars inside first, things sometimes look great in your head or on paper until you actually see it like that mammoth lathe I bought.

Sounds like your a gluten for punishment too lol. We built our own home, a woodshop and 2 garages but your right, it's very rewarding. Keep up the good work.

747 Mopar, I checked out your garage thread and it was excellent. It went on forever, but some great stuff. Some of those guys have garages that are bigger than my house. I am in the process of downsizing as I know it takes money and time to restore these Mopars. I have one more 29 Model A Tudor to get rid of and I will be down to a manageable two cars. My 70 Roadrunner and a 29 Model A Phaeton.

I am trying to figure out what lighting I need per square foot for a 12' ceiling? Any experts out there, or anyone with experience, please chime in? I know I am going to use led's, that's a given.

PRND21 I did not take any video of me lifting the trusses solo, nor did I take any still pics of the process. In one of my pictures you see a thick blue and white nylon rope tied to the top of the truss. While the truss is upside down, tie one of the rope to the top of the truss. bring the other end over the truss to the back of the garage. Use a 2 x 4 to swing the truss up past 90 degrees while the 2 x 4 is resting on the ground (the 2 x 4 should be 10' or 12' long). Go to the back of the garage and pull the rope. It will swing the truss up into position. If you attach one 2 x 4 block 22.5" long to each side of the truss before you pull it up into position, it will stop in the perfect upright position to be 2' apart on center. Tie off the rope, then climb up and nail it into position. It worked like a charm. Just make sure you lift the truss with the 2 x 4 past 90 degrees and you will have no problems!

The garage door arrived, but they left out one of the rods needed for the counter balance spring. The door is installed, I am just waiting for the rod to arrive. I just finished putting up the trim. Tomorrow I will put up the weather stripping and begin the electrical.

Why did you build with frost footings rather than a floating slab?

It is a floating slab. In the northeast footings are required at 48". I built to the specifications of the code in the town where I live. They would not let me use a slab alone at this size.

The cars came home today. My sons were helping me and everything was a rush so i did not get a chance to take pictures. I needed them to help me lower the garage door as I am still waiting for the other spring tensioning rod to arrive. My garage door opener did arrive. It is a 8500 Liftmaster Elite. I will let you know how it operates once I have it installed. Oh yeah, I am still waiting for the electrician to get back to me. I called to different people and both are dragging their feet. What's up with that? Is it possible they do not want to make any money? Oh well.

I'd suggest starting a separate thread on lighting, you'll get more responses especially in the general discussion section.

I opted for T5 4 bulb fixures in mine after they switched our whole plant over to them.... very impressive life and lighting. 4 fixures is all it took for my 32x34 and they now offer bulbs in LED so I'll be trying them.

I finally got the electrician to come by. I went with Home Depot 2' High Bay Commercial lights at 18,000 lum. I used 6 lights and at night it makes it look like day time. This picture is a daytime pic and does not do the lights justice. Equally as important the lift is operational! Yeah!!! Thanks for your input and your advice; you guys are awesome! God bless you!!! The second pic I am putting together the high floor stands that will stabilize the car when 6' off the ground.
