I'm not seeing the fact scandal that everybody is harping about with the number 1 & 2 firebirds. Serial numbers are 0001 and 0002, I'm not sure what's fake about that?
I watched the show last night, the only thing I have to complain about is that I don't think I like the new guy. And I didn't like seeing the one goofy guy get fired. He was funny, the camera loved him and his clownish antics.
What was at issue was in the first episode they said the two cars were show cars that were sent to shows to gauge reactions and determine whether or not the line would go into production, which wasn't entirely true. The cars were samples that went to shows to show the line and the determination to put the car into production was already made.
They also gave the impression that these were barn finds that had been hidden away and unknown for decades, and they weren't. They were just bought by the owner on ebay a couple of years ago and he had them as an investment.
They also made it sound like Rawlings had found these cars, but the owner had contacted him and other potential buyers.
The other issue was the hyped-up prices. Rawlings paid $75k or so for the cars, and the owner bought them off ebay for $30k or so, so the whole "these cars are worth $300k as they sit!" stuff was nothing but pure hype and exaggeration.
What I find important in all this as a fan of the show is this crap didn't use to happen in previous seasons when they dealt with Joe Average cars. But one of things that drew me to the show was it was more realistic than the other shows out there. Rawlings lost money as often as he made it, deadlines were missed, budgets had to be met, etc. And while I didn't like Tom and Jordan getting fired, I have to admit they had it coming. Rawlings has been making comments about Tom being late, not letting folks know what was going on, etc., for a couple of seasons now, and Jordan was always screwing stuff up, doing it on camera, and explaining how he screwed up on camera... which wasn't very smart. Like the time he didn't read the instructions when trying to put accessories on an engine, and ended up blowing half a day because he didn't put the water pump on first, or messed up the motor mounts on the Galaxie they did. All those delays cost money, and not showing up on time a lot will get you fired anywhere.
I think these guys getting fired, for the reasons they did, shows a lot more authenticity than any other show has.
