So I was wondering if i could put the cork gasket piece that goes under the timing chain cover without pulling the water pump housing and timing cover off on a 440?

Why would you even try? Back in my days a dealer tech I investigated every way possible to be quick. First thing you learn? If you don't have time to do the job right the first time, you'll always have time to do it the second time. The second time didn't pay. When you got creative you could skip steps on part removal for access. But you had to be smart about it. Many times watched others try do sneak around without removing components for good access. It took them longer. This is one of those times.

Let me get ahold of your idea here.

You want the gasket replaced and you don't want to remove anything to install the gasket?

If anyone knows a way to do this it would revolutionize the entire auto repair industry! LOL

Gives you a chance to inspect the timing chain while you're there.

I watched a guy at our Chevy dealer smear RTV around the outside of a 3.4 intake. If you've ever done a 3.4 it's a fair amount of disasembly. He figured he beat the flat rate time. Good thing no one else saw it.
