Gear drive pros and cons

see totally a chevy thing

just because it was on My old camaro doesn't make it a "chevy thing" It makes the timing consistent,longer...and IF it were a "chevy thing" would You be so stubborn to move to a better idea just becaus it is a "chevy thing" I drive a mopar now...did in the early 60's...also owned alot of Gm...chevy's, gto,s'''etc...all the cars have positives and negitives. This reminds Me of our local mopar guru and close friend...He wouldn't have anything but a mopar...even if they were pure junk....lol

Yeah mopar guys are funny like that. I was introduced to muscle cars by a mopar guy and so naturally thats what i am. When i was younger i never ever pictured myself in anything but a mopar. Now, there are a few choice models from the other 2 companies i could see me in. Would still have at least 1 mopar in the garage before getting something off brand.

gear drives are the original"racing"timming set up that has survived from back in the day.they allowed race motors to high rev and have timming remain stable before true roller and double roller timing chains where available.if you like the sound then run em.chain and belt technology caught up years ago,but they do have minor stretch problems.nothing you would ever need to worry about in a true race eng since it is torn down between every race.for street and strip cars the only difference is the noise.

they are annoying , noisey and I associate them with chevys double steel roller chain and gears are fine

Ha Ha, Yeah..."I second that"
My question is "why" ??
I suppose the answer is "because we can"
But, I'm still "amiss" on the whole Chain Drive thing. I just never "got it".
I had a 63 Ford Galaxie 500XL 4-speed car with factory tri-power and solid lifter 406CI / 405HP. Those lifters "made noise".
But Gear Drives? They are loud.

I can see them for racing apllications and hell in a race motor you will never hear the damn thing , but for the street its pointless .

Agreed. Overkill for the streets. I'd use a double roller TC for a street engine.
