gear vendors overdrive? what ya think?

When I had 3.54 rear gears and switched to 3.15 I really enjoyed the different noise level inside the car. The final gear set ended up as 2.80 and changed transmission to a 3.27 first gear. Still wanted to shift again at highway speeds. Around town to gearing was very fun to drive. It did cost quite a bit with both a rear end change and aftermarket transmission. AMX with 5 speed Richmond and Ford 9 3/8 police car rear end.

Going off on a rant.... really, if that is a rant then please do go on....

You made the statement that said speed is accidents/costly and blah blah blah... yet thats not true, i speed , no accidents, live in NY where ins rates are retarded have several registered insured vehicles and a com vehicle and pay under 2000 for 4 of them, and 2 are full covered.
So speeding isn't the problem why you have accidents or more costly insurance... LACK of ability to drive is.

.
Supershaft You seem to have knowledge of the Gear Vendors OD. I have a 2.94 rear running about 3000 rpm at 70, I live in the country so speed and distance =can't stand driving that slow. How easy on a 67 charger auto should i change to 3.23? P.S. I walk like i am 60 but still drive like i am 21 hahahahah

My 69 RR is a 4 speed but I am looking into getting the GV OD. I plan on some long distance touring and even with 3.23 rear am still turning near 3000 RPM at 70 - 75 MPH and getting around 12 MPG. I'm not looking to lite up the tires and I do not like cruising at 3000 RPM for hours on end and better mileage wouldn't hurt a thing. The 3.23 ratio works well for my driving around town. I get my satisfaction in miles between fillups and don't worry about recovering the cost of the OD unit. I'll recover that cost in pleasurable cruising.

Yes............I am old.
----------------------------------think I`d try taller tires first !
