got a tip about a charger for sale in my neighborhood.....

Two very different things. I’ve shot paint for a living, and I can lay down a nice looking finish. I’ve done collision body work as well as frame machine pulls. But bringing back completely rusted out hulks is a different kind of fuckery. :)

it's all pretty much the same to me, but that is just an opinion

be careful not to underestimate yourself while over rating others...... this stuff ain't that difficult

People with excellent skills often say what you're saying. It is exactly the skill that makes it easier to do the job.

From my experience in collision, and it’s been a few decades since I did it as my only job… the cars that came in were insurance payouts. So you were never dealing with rust. Cars old enough to have rust issues were totaled. So replacing a quarter panel on a 3-4 year old car was no problem because all the panels it was welded to were structurally sound. A couple of those Chargers that Birdsong did were completely rotted in the floor and back frame rails. He’s literally starting from scratch. Luckily my Charger doesn’t need that much but it does need quarters, rockers, trunk pan, drop offs, and rear valance. One of these days… I’m going to tackle it.

Btw… are parts available again? I looked into ‘70 Charger and ‘68 Plymouth B body stuff, and everything was out of stock.

There was a time in my life, not really, I just wanted to say that. That car is no value added to me. Run and don't look back. By the time you fixed the body and bought everything else it needed, you'd be broke.

. He’s literally starting from scratch.

I'd hire him :D

this one was literally pulled out of a stack....and it wasn't on top
typical rust and bent to ****

I prefer the follow through....... :bananaweed:

Nice. Two of the best painters I’ve known don’t do metal work. They do the filling blocking and final finish. Most collision shops pay a painter to lay down good paint. They just shoot the car.

too many hands........ lol

my point was there are many talented people out there....... my stance is many do it as well as I do, but none do it better

Probably not many people realize how awesome it would be.
Throw amd's number in the garbage and make some patches. Make it work.

would all that cage work pass tech?....... having to rip it all out makes it that much more of a train wreck

If I had hit that billion $ lottery… I’d pay Birdsong to do the metal. And get a guy to shoot it. :D

and if I hit the billion........ I'd still do everything myself

to each his own :drinks:

We changed to IHRA, and the cage doesn't have to certify till 9.0
( assuming it's not complete garbage of course)

I'm an efficiency freak...... savant...... whatever you want to call it

the slightest wasted motion pisses me off

and it's because this kind of work is so freaking labor intense...... not only does it need to be done well, but it can't take for ever to do it

along with the basic skills, you need the drive to keep pushing.........I call it "relentless persistence"

That thing was sitting on a trailer out front of the diner at Carlisle...its pretty rough
