so does anyone know how to setup the headlight switch in 69 charger so that the headlight doors open when u turn the park lamps on? I have halo headlights and have them wiring up to my side markers. So I can have the halos showing with doors open? 2015-10-13 18.53.35.jpg2015-10-13 18.49.35.jpg

Interesting question. Sorry, I do not have an answer but another question:
Where did you get the headlights? Are they HID or LED type? Do you know the current draw? In simple terms, do they pull more power than the stock headlights do?
I'd love to find some way to use the HID headlights from a car like my 2015 Challenger.

Are the doors vacuum operated?

You mention cutting. I have a 70 Charger that has fixed headlights like you but my headlight doors are electric. Did you have to modify the headlight buckets they sit in? I do have spares from a 70 GTX. Not sure if they are different. Not afraid of cutting non-Charger stuff!
I like the brightness and appearance of the Challenger HIDs. They might be too deep though, running the risk of sitting too far forward to allow free movement of the headlight doors. Nothing I need to concern myself right away. I just like to research stuff before jumping in. Sorry if I am horning in on your topic here. Your pictures sparked an idea that I'd put off for awhile. Thank you, Greg

yes I did have to cut the headlights buckets they sit it, mostly due to the halo bulbs where they go in. They sit where the factory ones did as I used the factory light bezals to hold them in. if u don't fit them they wont work. heres a pic of very first rough cut and shape. I did clean them up and repainted whole piece.2015-07-16 19.21.11.jpg2015-07-16 23.09.15.jpg

Would you consider converting the doors to electric, then you could wire the doors and halo's together?

I also did the same mod to my 69 superbee what the lights housing are black inside. The whole charger was been stripped and fitted with all 2015 parts whole car is upgraded, I wanted it to handle and brake better than new cars. Took me two years a lot due to rust issues, all new AMD steel in it now. U guys got tips or questions please comment. thanks Got lots of pics just ask!:headbang: I do how to mod the light switch to make it do what I want but seeing if anybody has any better ideas

ya im totally thinking about that for sure, good point. its easy for me as I have a full Painless wiring system. But when I took the car off the road it was all working great figured why spend another 500 US for electric. with the canadian dollar being so low I rather mod it and save the money.

I also changed all bulbs to LED as well as the LED tail lights very cool and easy to do2015-10-13 20.21.48.jpg2015-10-13 20.22.09.jpg2015-08-30 17.51.35.jpg

Neat idea, just so I understand, you are intending to be able to open the headlight doors when the outer halo led's are on with your parklights? Problem is your headlieaghs will not be energized, and if i am assuming correctly, the vacume switch to open the doors is piggybacked with the electrical switch for the main headlights? I don't have a charger and do not know the in's and outs of the setup, but perhaps an 12v electric operated solenoid over air would do the trick? Wired in parrallel with your park light system, the current draw would be small, energized open, no need for a relay. Then T the air portion of the solenoid in parrallel with the headlight vacume switch. I have used one a couple times for other purposes. It had 1/8 npt ports on it, I think my friend aquired it from a truck shop he was working at. No idea what a part number would be but should be easy to find.

Looks good man. Don't let the purists piss on your deviations from stock. Some guys refuse to accept anything different.

thanks for input, the whole idea is that on those factory charger switch that when u turn your park lamps on the doors stay shut, click it one more time they open and the headlights come on, it is air and electric. so I have wired the halos into my side markers which turns on with the park lamps. so how can u make this switch when clicked once into park lamp do the same action of opening the doors without headlights, if that makes sensemhs68.jpghlswnew_02.jpg
