Happy Veterans Day recognized 11-11-2013

You all have my deepest appreciation for your sacrifices. I still have two living Grandpa's that are WWII Vets "amazing stories" from two truly amazing hero's along with both my father in law and my dad being Nam Vets. Can't say enough "Thanks"

Anyone go out and get a free meal at the many restaurants that were letting Vets eat free?? Many did but many didn't and I was surprised at how many Vets showed up....maybe that's why a lot of restaurants didn't do it. My salute to those that did!

Happy Veteran's day to all who served, and are still serving. Thank you all for your service to our country!

Happy Veterans Day to our American Friends. Thanks to all who served. Thanks too to all our Allies world wide.

Here's me circa 1980 on a daring ASW mission over the Mediterranean Sea. You can't tell, but I am sick as a frigging dog because we'd been bouncing around at about 500 feet for hours. :) Check out the RUSSIA SUCKS pin on my life preserver... that would get me written up these days.

Happy Vets day to all my fellow veterans!

I`ve never gone to get that free meal ,I figure if I can pay for it that's what I`ll do there are some many vets that cant afford a meal they should be the ones to get it and what about the homeless vets . I see some many vets there that own company's and that are well of there for something free and they wouldn`t help a fellow vet out what a shame ... sorry for the rant

I drove past a Golden Corral last year on Veterans Day and the line was way out the door and down the front of the store, but we're a Navy town with a lot of vets. My wife wanted to know if I wanted to go there and I said I'm not desperate enough to stand in line for two hours just to get out of an $8 check. :)

Monday is usually the day that some buddies and I go to lunch together and one of them mentioned if I was going for the free lunch. I ain't shy about something for free so I asked. Kinda figured they were since the place had several vets inside. One guy was even wearing a sports jacket with all his medals and ribbons. To me, that's a bit over the top but I sure wouldn't stand in line either and have left many places before if the wait is more than a few minutes. This was my first time and I've been out since 73! Heck, most times I don't even remember to ask for my senior citizen discount and I'm 62.....maybe that's whey I can't remember :D

I went to KFC last night there was an Army guy {in dessert fatigues, not sure the rank, but he was an enlisted man, no officer pins or bars} & his cute little girl, standing/waiting behind me a few people back, in the order line... I left the cashier a $20 & a $5, then asked her to pay for their meal, if there was any change to give it to them {not sure if it covered the whole meal or not, or what they ordered}... I didn't want any recognition, I just walked out with a big a$$ smile on my face, it felt really good... After the day I had been thru, it was nice to do something nice for someone else, who is sacrificing so much for me & my country... When I was pulling away, when I saw him run out the door, I just kept going, I wanted to remain anonymous, it felt pretty damn good too...

I have done that very thing... As a matter of fact, I was beat out by someone once at a local Mom & Pop restaurant that we frequent every week. I signaled the server and told her to put the lunch of 4 in uniform folks on my tab. She said "You' re too late!! One of the other patrons already took care of it..

I did get to "pay it forward" about a month laterI was able to take care of lunch for a service family that was at the same restaurant. It does feel good when you are able to help out.

Our MOPAR club here in San Diego has the USO and Operation HomeFront San Diego as beneficiaries of fund raised at our annual car show. This past July we were able to give each a check for $3000.00 ! It was a good show..
