What I did on my summer vacation!

Corn silage...the first step to producing milk, butter and ice cream.

Four trucks. We did about 70 acres yesterday.

Farmer just took the corn off in the field behind us yesterday. Soy beans are being harvested now, too. We have not had a frost here, yet. Lots of big harvesting equipment on the roads right now. Support your local farmers!

When I was in high school guys kidded the guys who's families had farms, 50 to 100 acres. Well they are now millionaires, snickering as they sell the land for 80K to 120K an acre.

I grew up on a dairy farm. I got called "Farmer Dave" a bit in high school. We had 100 acres, but don't recall my Dad retiring as a millionaire.

Yea it depends where you live. Back in 68 I graduated HS, town was 12k to 14k pop max with 4 small cities around us. At that time 1 acre lots were 12k max as said now town is 30,000 pop or so and 1 acre lots now 80k to 120k. Guy 20 years ago had a chicken farm he ran and rented land to grow corn. This was almost in center town on Route 10 a major highway at least 60 miles long. OH the 84 acres was across from our HS. So after a couple of years town trying to buy the land, settled for 8.5 Million. If a contractor bought he'd sell/build houses and add 120k to the house price for the land. Right place right time.

I always enjoyed chopping silage....and I love ice cream!!!
Neighbors would come over to help..I always hauled wagons in, maybe a couple times packed silage..but I was a youngster then. LOL

We have been harvesting..but today the final drive came apart on one of our combines. We work on everything ourselves...so I am working getting our second combine ready to run. I am replacing a seal in the hydrostat while my brother is Jacking up the other machine.. not really how I planned my day.

Is that a 1460? Had to replace the hydro pump input shaft and drive hub once on ours. Stripped the splines out of the hub.

Many, MANY thanks and total respect to those involved in agriculture, be it farming, ranching or whatever. Without y'all, nothing gets done, we all starve and end up naked. And no one wants to see most of us naked...
Bless you.

Very similiar but a 2388...
I put a new shaft in because the splines were shot, but then the sealed leak.. Something shifted inside now and it doesn't move. I had the same thing happen to our other combine..I am losing the battle. :BangHead: :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

That was around 1988 or 89 when I had ours apart, seems to me there is something about the lever that controls the direction of travel on top that can get messed up. That’s been so long ago, and that’s the only one I ever had trouble with, I’m probably full of crap. Those aren’t easy to work on, as you know. Good luck.

My Ford friend falls into this category. His township is considered one of the wealthiest in central Pennsylvania. My wife laughs every time he meets me at our house. He has never looked the part of a multi millionaire, and we always get seated away from the "respectable" people when we eat at an upscale place.

I know a few like that.
