I need to figure something out. I am just shy of 6' tall but my seat needs to go back further. It is as far back as it will go adjustment wise. I am setting pretty close to the steering wheel. Both the wheel and the seats are factory issued as far as I can tell.
I haven't looked underneath to see how they are built or attached but I was curious if anyone else out there in Moparland has had the same issue.

EDIT: I just looked at the photos and it looks like there should be plenty of room. I may need to go on A diet. I am pretty thick around the middle. :BangHead:

I had the same problem with my bench seat 63 Fury. I made some extensions out of 1 3/4" wide x 3/16" thick 6061 aluminum about 5" longer than the seat base. I moved the seat back 3", sitting on top of the extensions. The original forward seat bolt goes through the extension only, into the original mounting hole. The original front seat bolt goes through the seat base, the extension and the floor through a new hole. The original rear seat bolt goes through the base, the extension and the floor through a new hole. Under the car the bolts also go through 3"x3" back-up 'washers' for support. All hardware is new grade 8. No room for rear seat passengers' legs unless they are little kids, but it made a world of difference in my comfort. The extensions can go under the carpet, but I elected to polish what little you can see of them.

Remove the seat an check where the track mounts to the set base, On later model i know the track can be mounted further back on the base.

64 seats have 2-piece adjustable seat tracks - at least my 64 and 66 Plymouths have. They will adjust up/down, back/forward and tilt (both ways for the seat bottom and back). I would first look under the seats and see how they are currently adjusted. They may have been set forward and up for a previous owner who was short. To adjust, just loosen the 4 bolts (2 each side) and shove the seat base rearward and down and retighten.

I'm shorter than you and I'm a little cramped in the '62. People were a lot shorter back then. Old houses show that too with the lower ceilings and door ways.

Same here. Someone makes extensions but can't remember who. I'll look into it and get back to you.

Thanks for the info and suggestions. I'll have to get out the flashlight and see what I can see. Some adjustments would be a plus for sure.

If it is like a 66 you have 3 holes in the base to move the seat fore and aft. Possibly 3 inches of adjustment. Also there might be adjustments for seat bottom tilting. Way better than 2nd Gen Chargers.

I bought universal seat mount extenders from Summit. They moved my drivers seat back 2". I also got rid of the original large oval steering wheel, and replaced it with a smaller 14" one (same size as steering wheel in my Jeep G.C.) that I bought from Classic Industries. I am 6'2". I thought about a tilt column, but it was too expensive. I also picked up a super rare 1964 Dodge power seat track for drivers bucket seat from a member on here. It might give more range of adjustment, too. I regard this as one of my greatest parts score! Last picture shows seat extenders installed on power frame.

There are multiple ways to do this. My favorite is to knock the studs out of the seat tracks and move them forward. I have found that most seat tracks even have another convenient hole about 1 inch forward. I do this on every car I have. Just the 1 inch makes a difference, and it is not noticeable. If you move the seat too far back the steering wheel and dash knobs start to become too far away. Year One makes the extension pieces mentioned above.

@toolmanmike not the best pic but if you zoom in on the hole at the bottom, you can see the 3 positions at which the seat can be mounted. This is my 64 Polara bench seat when it was off for new covers. Not a lot of adjustment but some. You've gotten good advice here on repositioning, but I'd start with this.

Thanks. Great photo. They look like the bases on my 66 Dart buckets. Really pretty handy for getting the seat just right for the driver. I really am spoiled with the power seats in our late model vehicles. 6 way, adjustable back, lumbar support. All a plus for comfort.

Diet out of the question, too much beer at the local Walmart.

True. My 63 BENCH seat is fully adjustable, except not enough. Thus the extensions. The adjustment with the lever is still functional for a shorter driver...

I did get the flashlight and stand on my head for a peek. The seat bases are adjustable up and down and tilt like my 66 buckets are. I might raise the back up a notch and see if that is a little better. Now it feels like I am leaning toward the back seat. My right knee is not happy in certain positions and getting the seat right will sure help, I do need to go back a bit so I will look into the extensions mentioned earlier. Thanks for all the help fellas.

That power seat base looks like a winner. Were the track extensions anything like these? I just started poking around to see which ones may work the best.

That's them. I think I only bought one set of 4 to do just the driver's side. Even one bench seat would only need 4. If you notice on the lower frame part of your seat, there is a set of three holes the studs can be mounted in. The factory mounts the studs in the centre hole. You can gain an inch by knocking these out and moving them to the forward hole. They are kind of hard to knock out, because the factory swedged them in. A little grinding in there with a Dremel grinder might make things easier. Then you can JB Weld them into forward holes.

Thanks. An inch or two would make a big difference I think. Add 2" and then adjust the seat as needed. The way it is now, it is back all the way and not far enough. I think I'll give them a try.

If your seat brackets are the same as a 66, there are adjustable locations where the lower bracket bolts to the brackets on the seat frame. You can see the two bolts that hold the two brackets together.
