Hello. I ended acquiring a spare heater core for 1972 Charger. I'm just wondering if the Everco brand is pretty decent? Also, I'm just wondering how a NOS Core would be compared to a newer one? This is for a non-AC Application. I'm assuming based on the box I'm thinking this probably produced somewhere in the 1970s or 1980s? Just wondering about thoughts as I have read the newer ones don't have the correct tubes and quality can be hit or miss. Thank you in advance.

I would think that you will have remove your old heater box and compare the cores. Is the old one leaking? Get a rebuild kit from DMT.

Thank you. Not sure if it leaks but, the car hasn't had coolant in it for almost 20 years in it and the core is the original. I think it gets started and ran for 1-2 minutes probably two times a year. The non-matching engine lost a freeze plug or has bad one.

The car isn't mine but, belongs to a relative. It's a been an on/off project. I did this as a favor to them to buy this one as a spare. The part number matches for a non AC Application. In addition, I'm aware of Glenn Ray but, I've read he has been backed up and being this is an older core I was willing to roll the dice for the price considering I think it might have been produced in the 70s/80s. Box said the factory was in Iowa?

Yes, I'm aware of the DMT stuff. I have some I'm using for my Dodge Truck project. Anyways, I was just curious as I've seen Murray, Stant, Everco, Four Seasons, and Ready Aire to name a few other brands.

With the cars I have and have had in the last 35 years, I've replaced only 2 heater cores. They never see the same problems that radiators do. Maintain your cooling system and heater cores will be the least of your worries. I do keep one of each style heater core on the shelf, but never thought much about what brand.

Sounds like a good one. Sometimes a used heater core lasts for decades, and then some just fail. So you might be fine, or need another one.

Yes, Everco is/was a manufacturer, and remanufacturer, of good products. They are no longer a stand-alone company. They became a part of Moog in the late 80s into the 90s, then were absorbed in 1998 under Four Seasons, which is a part of Standard Motor Products (SMP).

Everco produced a full line of heating and air conditioning products and also produced power steering components.

Everco and EvercoHD continues to make several mobile climate and other products under SMP/Four Seasons.

Murray is also part of Four Seasons/SMP now.

Just wanted to say Thank you. So, the core I bought does have a little corrosion on it and I believe that's due to the box getting wet at some point over the years. The relative I sent this too thinks it's bad but, I think it will be fine. The seller I bought it from has sold almost 14k items with a 100% Feedback so, I'm hoping I should be good. I'm thinking it can be cleaned up with either some "Never Dull" or "Brasso" and also hoping the relative won't throw it out. I'm doing this as a favor and since they are helping another relative with other things but, I guess we'll see.

Here's the description:

"Offered is an original Everco H2227 heater core listed for these models without A/C: '71-'76 Belvedere, Coronet, Satellite, '71-'78 Charger, '75-'78 Fury, Cordoba, Magnum, and '77-'78 Monaco. See catalog photos.. This is an early product made of copper and brass with a metal frame, not the aluminum type currently coming out of China. Item may have discolored over time and the box has light soiling, but this should do the job."

Thank you again everyone.

The applications that the seller has listed for Everco H2227 is correct. Although it may not be pretty it is likely better than most made nowadays.

The corrosion on the core is not an issue. Most of it has likely been there since shortly after it was manufactured. Getting wet might have added to it a little. The components are soldered together with acid core solder, and the acid residue from the process causes the surface corrosion. In general the green discoloring on the brass/copper parts and the white/grey on the other parts will not be any problem and the core can be used as is after blowing or rinsing any loose dust off.

To clean the outside, I would use white vinegar or diluted hydrochloric acid (muriatic) and a soft brass bristle brush to gently clean any loose material or powder, but not worry about any remaining color. Then wash/flush it with a mixture of water and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to neutralize any acid residue, then rinse with water. Air dry or lightly blow dry. The inside can be rinsed with low pressure water (less than 16psi).
