but i sure would like to just throw one of those cheaper ones in.
hose ends are different though

Here is one removed. No way to access the heater core without removing. This one is from a 67 Belvedere II.

AC and non AC heater cores are very different shape and size, they don't interchange.

Yes the box splits on half. I don't think it is very easy to do in the car. You could remove your box and see what's inside, it may be an easy fix. You can open the dash vent door and see inside some, but it may not be enough.

If core is bad you could put a patch on the AC firewall and put in just a heater only box from another 66-70 B body. You will need to patch over the big hole for blower motor and for the ac lines, and heater hoses are in a different place.

so ours id different than this 68 charger?he seems to get to the heater core pretty quickly.
when i look up the core # it states its used on the charger too.

Great video, shows you some things you don't want to duplicate.

Yes it the same as your 67. The coronet glove box is uphigher than the charger so the access and visibility is different.

Don't take the linkage apart, unbolt the vacuum diaphragm and take it all out with the box. Don't take apart that "window" he calls it. It's just not necessary and try getting all that back together and working again.

It is doable like the video, but not as easy as it looks.

I replaced the heater core in my factory AC 67 and did not remove the box - did it in the car. It was 20 years ago and I don’t remember the details but I sure didn’t want to discharge my AC if I didn’t have too. Stripped out the console and pass seat I’m sure but otherwise did all the work up under the dash.

in a pinch would it technically work if you were to route the coolant lines into the ac lines if you werent ever going to use the ac anyway? asking for a friend:rolleyes:

I guess technically if you could work out how to hook the hoses to the AC evaporator coil it would sort of work but they are smaller lines and passages so heat output would probably be a little low.

took us 4 hrs to get just the heater core section out .
the wagon seems to have extra stuff bolted to it than the ones ive seen vids on.
theres a lot more than 4 bolts and just that linkage too before it can be removed.
there are several hard to reach straps supporting it too.
ill pressurize it in the next several days but if it is all shot im going to consider one of those aftermarket heaters .
i was watching a few vids of the ones that have defrost too.
they still work with the 2 coolant lines coming from the engine.

Yep that charger video made is seem way to easy. Been there, they are a. Cluster of hoses and "stuff" under there.

the vintage air aftermarket one looks nice and has good reviews.it has the defrost function too which we would want.
i would just make a flat plate to cover what we removed and maybe bolt the aftermarket one to it.
i got a phone quote from the guy you all recommended for 750ish to rebuild just the heater core.
for us we just need heat somehow.
were not restoring it perfectly.
if the vintage air one fits i think we will go that route.
anyone have any knowlege of these aftermarket units?

I replaced the heater core in my 67 Coronet 440 and it was pretty easy. I did start by removing the front seat. I needed to remove the carpet to clean the antifreeze out and get it dry so the seat had to come out anyway. My car does not have AC so that didn't come into play.

curious why the seat should come out?
we just put a bench seat in that came with the car.
he said it was a coronet bench but it definitely was not.
we have it back all the way and my son fits in that space between but i sure dont!

Its four nuts and 10 minutes.

It gives you A LOT more room.
The box is big and heavy . Trying to maneuver it in and out around the seat makes it harder than it really needs to be. Its a quick solution. Not to mention. You risk damaging the seat as well

Over the years I've done maybe a half dozen of these box R+Rs
Trust me, take the seat out
