heater core replacement 67 coronet wagon

while working on other stuff today the wagon started leaking antifreeze badly under the dash.
we looped it for now but can any of you give us any direction to a writeup or something to remove it?
i cant seem to find very much info on this.
its got ac too but its not hooked up and we dont care about that.

You need to find a factory service manual. It’s available online for free. It’s quite a bit of work to remove the heater box, but the heater core itself is easy

do yourself a favor and take out the front seat.

Remove glove box liner too. It's tight to remove the A/C box, but there is wiggle room to get it out. Take plenty of pictures so you get everything right going back in.

There are 2 hoses and a Valve inside that box. And the inlet tubes have orings where they bolt to the box. So your heater core may be fine.

A pain in the rear end to get that box out of the car without damaging anything. Go easy with it.

but the box still needs to come out to even check this right?
ive seen pix of what looks a trap door to remove to look inside.
can i get to that without removing the whole box?

wow the ac heater core is 430 bux.
i can only find it at classic industries.
if im not ever going to use the ac do i still need to get the ac core?
will the non ac one fit in there too?

i just watched a youtube vid of someone removing the heater core from a 68 charger.
he didnt remove the whole box.
he onbolted the face from inside the car and the core was right there.
the ac condensor was farther in .is ours just like that?

66-70 B bodies are basically the same, there may be a few differences between years and makes.

i think im going to try doing it this way.
it started leaking so badly so quickly that im thinking that maybe its the rubber hose inside.
if thats just it maybe i can buy some time.

the fsm is very vague and not very descriptive.
it says to remove the whole box to replace the heater core.

Glenn Ray is recommended to repair your heater core. I'd ask if he could repair the AC condenser.

i dont care about the condensor at all.
i just need the heater core working.
i did call glen ray.
he said it could be many things inside the housing including rubber hoses and an h valve.
he did not know how to remove the heater core and thought that the windshield would need to be removed which i know we don't have to do.

i would love to know if i could seperate the case from inside without removing everything.
ive only seen or read about this on the one youtube vid i with a 68 charger with ac.

I've never had any issues with pulling the box out and my mechanical skills level is low. Front seat out is the key. Three, or four nuts on the firewall. Drop it down and disconnect cables and vacuum lines. Remove box.

DMT has heater box rebuild kits.

YouTube Tyler's neighborhood garage has a heater box video from years ago that might help you.

AC box does not have a removable face panel like the NON ac box. The box splits in the center


Trust me, Its A LOT easier to just pull the box
