Has anyone installed a set of Hedman shorty headers on a 62-65 B body? I would like to put a set on my 62 Plymouth big block car but am worried about number one pipe hitting thr steering box. Any info would be great.

I've never seen Headman shortys on an early B car with a big block so I'm guessing that they won't fit, but like I said I'm just guessing. Did you try calling Headman and see what they say?

Yes I did and they don't know either. Maybe I am meant to be the guinea pig.

78030 is the full length Hedmans and I will say they fit awesome in my '63 330 with 440 and 906 heads.

Not sure the reason for shorties when full length fit so well!

Usually for things like lowered car, column shift, or in low deck 383/400 header selections. I will have all three of those issues.

I know lowered is not an issue as they tuck up nicely under the car. Buddy has a 400 in a 65 Plymouth with the same headers and they fit the low deck. Not sure on column shift, though..

I had a set of 78030 for my 64 with a low deck. Not even close to fitting. they hit the block, the starter, the trans rails. tried everything to get them to fit. Never again Hedman stuff.

How long ago?

We just put them on my friend's 65 this Spring.

The other set of shorty headers I am also considering is Sanderson DD2. They are block huggers and I think they might fit a little nicer than Hedman. A friend of mine has installed a couple of sets on other vehicles and says he loves them- also no leaks.

I have a set of headers off my old big block Challenger and these are the same, so says headman, My understanding that 64 and older rb engines in b bodies require a different header. Im building a 64 Coronet prostreet and want a set of headers, not the cast iron units, just headers. Ive looked images on line and cant get it on my head the difference.

I went to Carlisle a week ago and after speaking with the owner of Schumacher decided I would order a set of their ceramic coated headers. He guaranteed me that they would fit my 62 Plymouth. Said he has sold some to other early B body guys with no problem. I will let you know how they fit.

I believe the Schumacher headers have 1-5/8" primaries. If you aren't winding it up they are a decent option.

I ended up buying headers from Schumacher and they fit perfect and were easy to install.
