Ok guys I have a 383 in my 66 sat. Installed a DUI HEI Dist. Ran great on the dyno. Now the motor's in the car, and now I have to find out what wire to use for the HEI. I was told to use the single wire (brown) coming into the ballist resistor, and tuck the other two away. Now the problem is when I turn the key to run no power, but I have power in start position only. Now the other side is opposite. On in the run position and off in the start. Another thing the yellow wire that goes from the ignition switch to the starter relay is only on in the start position only not the run position. I thought that the yellow wire was supposed to be on in run and start. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT WHAT WIRE DO I USE FOR THE HEI DIST?:icon_eyes::icon_eyes:

The yellow wire to the starter relay is only powered up in the start position because thats the only time you want the starter motor working. The other 2 wires that went to the ballast can be spliced together and then run to the dizzy. That way you will have power in both run and start positions.

So take the brown wire that's only got power when the key is in the start position, and spilce it with the blue/white tracer wire that is on in the run position only and run that to my Dist. Now that leaves the solid blue wire going to my voltage regulator not connected to anything. Because the solid blue and blue/white were connected together and went from one side of the resistor to the voltage regulator. Then green from voltage regulator to tha alternator.

Maybe this will help. Basically, the ballast resistor goes away, the dark blue wire to the old coil is not needed anymore. All the rest get tied together.

Shorthorse, that's kind of what I was thinking. Brown, blue/white tracer, and dark blue to the voltage regulator all get tied together. Then from there to my coil. Wiring just scares the hell out of me. Don't want melted wires or fires under the dash. Thanks.
