I went to check out a Coronet wagon yesterday and with the car came an unknown engine/tranny combo that was not in the car. It was raining a decent lick and the only number i could spot quickly was on the intake manifold, Chrysler part # 3871535. Problem is when i try to search for it i'm not coming up with anything. Believe it is a big block, intake is 4bbl and appears to be have the factory blue paint on the block which would lead me to believe a post 71. Checked for numbers similar thinking i'd maybe looked at it wrong but still coming up empty.

Any ideas?

Thanks

big blocks have the dist hole up front pointing towards the pass side of the eng.small blocks have it in the rear.also 440's will have a flat metal block right next to where the distib goes into the block, has numbers on it.if that block is not there then it is a 383 or 400 or so.there should be numbers on the side of the eng block you should be able to research.

Thanks, it did have the passenger side front distributor location but with the rain I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't check the pad next to the distributor. Good to know that only the 440's were identified this way, may have a chance to get back out there Sunday and take a closer look. Was hoping to narrow it down by that casting number on the intake but seems to be an oddball or mid-late 70's piece as most of the earlier versions have listings online.

Your backwards in your info.

The RB motor (413-426-440) has the ID pad on the front driver side under the AC compressor. Right on top in front of the valley pan rail.

The B motor (383-400) has the ID pad just below the distributor.

When I get home, I will look up the manifold in my interchange manual. What I can find so far is that it is a 75.

thanx for clearifying that.i was just assuming the common motors.didnt think there was much chance someone would give away a rarer motor.

Thanks guys, I really doubt it's anything special but the guy is a self confessed Ford nut and knows next to nothing about Mopars so you never know.
69 Bee, did you have a chance to check that interchange manual?

I tried, but the intakes all stopped at 73. The different parts stopped at different years, sorry.
