I have my fuel pump out and was just going to put it back in. For some STUPID reason I decided to put a plastic container from an old carbide bit in the pump hole to hold the push rod up in place while I went to grab the pump. DONT ask I don't know why I did that. Not the first time I have pulled the fuel pump why I did this , this time.......?

ANYWAY. The damn container fell inside the block....... FAAWWWK . Should that have fallen straight down to the pan correct ?

What's my easiest way to get that POS out... ite plastic so can't use a magnet ......

Wow I'm Such a idiot.....

Maybe it only dropped down a little bit and stopped. Get a flexible retriever tool with claws and go fishing for it. Bore scope can locate it if you have one. Or pull the oil pan.

If it made it down to the pan, no big deal. Bit of plastic have circulated in oil pans for decades; timing gear chunks, valve seal bits, etc... It won't get sucked up into the oil pump, so deal with it the next time you drop the pan.

ps.. grease works well to hold the rod up.

I definitely use a borescope and see exactly where it is. You can maybe use some epoxy on a plastic rod and stick it down there in epoxy and wait and pull it out or get some type of very tacky putty of some sort to get out of there.

Do you have a flexible claw tool ?

Mine came in handy MANY times.

If you can't find it in the fuel pump hole or just below where it would have dropped, you could drain the oil pan and see if it makes it's way to the drain hole. Look in the drain hole with a led light. You might be able to fish it out through there. No luck then don't worry about it, shouldn't hurt anything.

Have you removed the fuel pump push rod plug? It’s not made it to the pan and don’t think there’s a big enough opening there for it to get there. Use something sticky on the end of a piece of tig wire or clothes hanger and fish it out.

So I do have one of the claw tools ... I've been fishing with no luck yet. .....the container is about 1/2" square by 2 1/2 inches long and pretty light gauge plastic . The cap is probably the toughest part.

And no it was not filled with shavings at all for someone that asked.

I can't belive I did that ......... didn't even have 1 beer yet .

Might have to invest in a bore scope .

Wow that was stupid! Take the front end off the motor and you should be able to get it out. Doubt it went into the pan unless there is no baffle on the pan.

Good luck

Ya was wondering is there not a windage tray in there to ?

Ok so I borrowed a scope and I can see the piece . BUT I can't find anything to get it yet. The claw I have will not bend in the direction I need .

Here is a picture trying to show where it appears to be sitting .

I think it's basically sitting on the oil pan up near the very front of the engine .
